Kruiz are totally fucking awesome. Ridiculously fast speed metal... that album actually has blastbeats on it. On a slightly related note, are any of you lot into Kat's Metal and Hell? I'm really enjoying it at the moment. Raw speed metal with raspy vocals... like ACCEPT IN HELL!

Jesus, why.

I wonder how long until bands start re-recording albums as soon as they release them...

On the other hand, maybe they'll cut out all the ridiculous bloat that album has and end up with something actually good.

Yeah, seen it. Very grand and it reminds me of Age of the Empires which can only be a good thing. I just ordered Shadow Kingdom's reissue of Out of the Abyss, too. Now, I'll have all the MR studio albums.

What's some european power metal in the vein of Scanner - Hypertrace?

Rooted in the old school, riff-based, catchy, without modern influences (folk, synths, wank, etc).

Have you heard Angel Dust's To Dust You Will Decay yet? That's basically in a very similar style (and with the same singer). There's also a Reactor album that features Coe and is in a similar style (I've not heard it, though).

The singer on Hypertrace is not the same on Angel Dust's Too dust you will decay and Scanner's Terminal Earth.
And i don't think that this two germanic bands are similar. If you want something like Hypertrace, maybe try MANIA or HEAVENS GATE.

Oh, I read that as Terminal Earth no idea why. But yeah, check out the stuff I rec'd as well as those two. I will say that Heavens Gate are better than Mania, though (at least on Livin' in Hysteria.

Oh shit, I forgot that a new Manilla Road was on the way. That cover's pretty freakin' sweet, but I'm not really sure about that title.

Anyway back on topic, is there any other european power metal bands that sound like they are USPM like Adramelch? Also if the bands are labeled 'epic' as a genre tag on MA then I might already know of them unless they are really obscure.

I assume you've heard Adramelch's side project, Anathema? Their sole demo is in a very similar vein and is quite cool. For European USPM, check out Final Prophecy (although they're labelled 'epic power/speed,' so you may know them), Bud Tribe's 'Roll the Bone,' and Steel Angel. I assume you've heard most of the British stuff? If not, check out Cloven Hoof's second and third albums and Elixir's 'Son of Odin'.

Check out ORDALIA (Italy). Their album was reissued this year by Barbarian Wrath and their sound remembers Adramelch.

Wow, Adramelch are awesome. They aren't even what I was looking for, but since The Animator said they sound like USPM, I gave them a listen (Irae Melanox) and was amazed.

I'd say the quality of their riffs match Fates Warning. The vocals are even too. Love at the first listen. Shitty modern bands wish they were this good.

Angel Dust are great too. Better than the Scanner album, but both are rifftastic.

Title isn't bad, just really generic. What bothers me more is the WHY THE FUCK ISN'T IT CENTERED ON THE COVER?! Girardi's art never fails to impress.

The new Satan's Host is possibly better than Virgin Sails, no idea why they divided the album in two parts though, it's about 75 minutes together... Fucking Conklin is the boss!

Agreed, new Satan's Host is spectacular - at least as good as Virgin Sails, maybe a tad better. Super premature, but AOTY for 2015 perhaps? Those guys are fucking machines - top-tier album every 1-2 years, it's like the 80s again!

On first listen, the new SH sounds like the best of the newest three they've done with Conklin. Catchier and more coherent than Virgin Sails and more consistent than By the Hands of the Devil. "Embers of Will" and "Descending in the Shadow of Osiris" are jaw-dropping songs...I think they do tend to write the same song over and over quite a bit, but it works for them, and for evil, Satanic metal these guys have certainly upped the ante.

Definitely too soon for AOTY though...still gotta hear new Seasons of the Wolf and Melechesh at least!

Oh damn, forgot Seasons of the Wolf was releasing a new one! That's sure to be pretty awesome. New Manilla Road and Blind Guardian should be enjoyable as well, though given their recent output, neither is likely to be AOTY.

Just listened to the new Messiah's Kiss album several times, and yeah, if you've got any love for traditional metal you should give this a spin. Probably their strongest album to date.

Lord Fist sound pretty rad, and I really dig the cover art there. Gonna keep an eye on that. Remind me here when that album comes out, because I'll probably forget, haha.

An album I got recently was Mausoleum Gate's s/t, a great late 70s/early 80s style trad metal album with a Satanic bent.

Jophelerx wrote:

Oh yeah, that's great news, I was afraid they'd packed it in or gone on super-extended hiatus or something.

Damn, this Lord Fist artwork is insanely good, it's like Mad Max mixed with Adventure Time. The cover art of their cool latest EP was nice too but nowhere near as great as this one.

Hey, I've been trying forever to find a newer, traditional-styled band with melodic riffing and crunchy production; for reference, think Jag Panzer or early Riot. Just full-speed-ahead, balls out intensity with a dosage of thrash for good measure.

Mauseolum Gate? That's actually a cool band name, I thought we were supposed to have run out of those? This music's cool, too, Satanic 'Never Surrender' with Lucifer's Friend vocals. The Chuck Berry solo was hilarious, too, and the random Deep Purple outro that had very little to do with the rest of the track, haha.

Jag Panzer never really sounded much like early Riot, but if you want new stuff similar to 'Ample Destruction' I can throw out a few recs.

Steel Assassin's 'War of the Eight Saints' is a must-hear if you haven't yet, the singer is a dead ringer for Conklin and the riffing is pretty straight ahead power/speed. Rob Rock's 'Holy Hell' sort of fits here, it's a bit more aggressive power/thrash but you said you wouldn't mind some thrash in there. It's a bit on the christian side, but not too blatant and the riffage and vocals make up for it.

Not sure how dead set you are on getting something new, but if you're willing to get some older, but lesser-known stuff (don't know how much stuff you know), check out Hanker's 'In Our World' (a bit more on the lighter, more white-collar side) and Attak's 'Veni, Vidi, Vici' compilation, which is Ample Destruction worship of the highest order. Not even worship, really; just happens to sound very, very similar.

Yeah new Cloven Hoof is absolute garbage, it doesn't even sound like the same band (I don't think it even is, other than Lee Payne). Stick to the first three albums and pretend the new stuff doesn't exist.

That's a shame. I remember that "Sweating Bullets but not" song they did a while back, and it was just awful to try and tolerate. They did so well on Dominator and A Sultan's Ransom, thus making the following liquidy fart of their career even worse. :(
