Pretty solid imo. More mid-paced and rockish than some of the faster heavy/speed tendencies of the last album (although obviously not all songs), but sounds solid.

Oh but why did Tony Moore leave? :(

Sounds awesome, new singer sounds excellent.

My metal instincts were right, these albums by Twins Crew and Thunder and Lightning are seriously awesome power metal. Thunder and Lightning is what Tad Morose should sound like in 2014 and Twins Crew is some serious old school Helloween/Nocturnal Rites/Gamma Ray worship with choruses that you'll remember instantly. Man I love discovering cool new bands like this.

They are both similar in some ways and different in some, but the galloping metal rhythms , epic emotional riffs, classic lead work and the snarling yet melodic vocals pretty much nail it for me.

The x-factor is hard to decsribe in words, but if you have heard them, you know what I mean.

Can any of you kind people recommend any other tracks of a similar style/nature, either from back then or from now ?

I always had this song as a follower to The immoral wasteland on a playlist:

Also this one, though it may be a long shot:

Thank you for the recs ! Both are seriously great slices of 80's sounding metal.
I can see how they could work in the same playlist.

But still, they dont have the mid paced gallop nor that vocal timbre.

Also, looking at your signature made me realize that both the vocalists i listed are dead :(
RIP . Both are irreplaceable.

So Pagan's Mind played 50 minutes from me yesterday (pre-ProgPower show with DGM) and I completely neglected my metalhead duties/didn't go. :(

I hope they tour the U.S. at some point.

I would have been more bummed about missing DGM, they are fantastic!

I think you will get off with a warning this time. If it happens again your card may be revoked. We'll see what the council's position is.

Pagan's Mind are the poster children for boring, overproduced early 00s prog/power. You didn't miss anything good.

I like em a lot. Especially Enigmatic: Calling. Sure, it's overproduced Mr. Clean level stuff, but the songwriting is solid and the "virtuoso musicianship" works for me compared to a lot of prog, seems to fit the context of the spacey transcendent theme pretty well. Pagan's Mind and Voyager, two bands with sickeningly clean production jobs and a lot of cheese, but I enjoy both.

Which is funny because don't try to get me to listen to overproduced generic schlock like say Carach Angren. I don't tolerate that shit with extreme metal, but for power/prog...

I've heard the whole new album and it does have some faster numbers. This is definitely one of the better songs on the album, in my opinion, but it's not like the rest of the album is significantly weaker or anything.

Welp, I'm not missing that one, at least not Friday.

On Riot, does the new singer remind anyone else of Halford?

Say what you will about Royal Hunt, but Paradox live might be a spectacle.

That new Riot album is not as good as I expected. I really like the guy who became new vocalist for them. Unfortunately I dislike him in Riot. His highs seem much weaker than Tony's. It's a pity 'cos I expected a lot from this release. Maybe it will grow on me by the time.

I think it is a grower for sure. Maybe still not as good as I wanted, but I'm gonna give it a chance.

Here's the announcement made on their Facebook page...
Stefan Weinerhall wrote:
As the news has been dropped that we won't continue as a live act after our gig at Progpower USA in 2015 we take the opportunity to explain, not that it really differs much from
the state the band usually is in.

As I (Stefan Weinerhall) started Falconer in 1999 it was meant to be a studio project.
I have always looked upon myself as a writer more than an artist,
the creative work has been the reason and driving force.
We started doing some shows after a while but never really going all in although the shows themselves was really rewarding, fun and filled with fond memories.
It is due to conscious decisions that we have built the band up around our obligations, work schedules and family lives so there is no bitterness to this decision although the decisions were harder to make in the early years when everything started rolling.
If we're not a proper live act we're better of as the studio project we were meant to be.

The inconsistency of doing very few shows with huge gaps between them has meant
that we've had to start up the rusty machinery from scratch each time.
So now as we all are becoming grumpy old men, we realise that the output don't match the input although the experiences from the past gigs have been great!

We owe it to our fans and ourselves to do some more appearances before becoming even more reclusive than we already are, haha!
So for 2015 we have looked into our windows of opportunity and seen which festivals we CAN do.
Those festivals are now contacted and know of the exclusivity in the offer. So with this I hope that those of you who really want to catch us a last time will succeed, even though we haven't directly booked a world tour!

Cheers from the metal minstrels from the north!

Falconer's pretty much the only cool act at ProgPower, but I might go anyway given the fact that they won't play again and haven't really played much at all in the past. Would be sweet to see them once.

Actually, I would love to see Anubis Gate, Morgana Lefay, Falconer and Helker. Helker was one of the best finds I made in 2013. That vocalist is the Argentinian Dio. He's amazing. I'd see Royal Hunt, too, although I must admit that I only know of a few songs by them and that was when John West was in the band.

Morgana Lefay's decent, might enjoy seeing them somewhat, but the other stuff is garbage to me. Of course, I just don't like much europower, so that's my taste. Admittedly I haven't heard all the bands for Saturday.

I'm giving a listen to the brand-spanking-new Stallion full-length and this shit is kicking my ass left and right. Riiiiiiipping, hard-rocking speed metal with tons of swagger and a nice scummy hint of 80's glam sleaze (mostly in how the incredible vocals are delivered/multitracked).

First track:

Haha, that intro riff is so 'Port Royal' and the harmony section is lifted from somewhere else, too (can't remember exactly where, though).

Pfff, it's only about 62% similar, and also it's about horses so it's totally different. Also, that's the opening/title track and is one of the weakest ones on the album but it's the only one that's on YouTube so far. Still a blast, though!

Ah, so it wasn't more dramatic than that. It just seemed a bit weird to say they will stop playing live, since they practically never started.
Getting a live DVD would be great.

They're all not euro-power. Helker is traditional metal, Anubis Gate is prog metal as is Royal Hunt. You could call Falconer euro-power but they are so much more than that.

I really dug what Stallion were doing on Mounting the World but for some reason what I've heard from the full length doesn't move me at all. They'd be fun to see live but I can feel that I would never play the album.

europower is usually meant to describe power metal that focuses on chrouses primarily. never heard helker, but anubis gate and royal hunt certainly put focus on that aspect more than riffs.

Um, I'm trying to remember a crazy awesome band that had a compilation released just a few years ago, the singer was nonstop with the insane shrieks and the cover was like a cloak covered skeleton in flames flying in the sky or something. Very red.

Long day and my folders are a mess. Maybe someone has a clue who I mean... it'll click once I see it. lol

Any bands like Venom?
is still around...Have you listened to Sabbat (JPN) and Bulldozer? These are two bands that always reminded me of Venom if they hadn't imploded so early into their careers. These are not Venom clone bands, you will find those popping up more in the modern scene, but I think these two carry on the SPIRIT of Venom in a very fun way.
