Exhortation (Texas, USA)
http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Exh ... 3540400522

Another promising band that suffers the 'generic 1 word name that dozen other bands have already taken' dilemma. The music is far from generic however. There is some interesting experimentation going on here. Vocals are pretty refreshing & varied for thrash as well. Don't be put off by the deathcore tag, give it a chance.

I didn't really find their debut to be anything special. I will probably listen to the new one if it finds its way to me, but not a band I'm overly keen to check out again.

If I'm not mistaken Dave is the main songwriter in the band. The departing members despite being very talented musicians were basically hired guns. He wants to continue the band it seems.

I apologize to anyone who was concerned about the post from earlier today. Vektor is not stopping. I started writing Vektor songs in 1999 and I'm still writing Vektor songs. As long as I live, Vektor will not die.
I appreciate everything that Blake, Frank, and Erik have done to help this ship take off. I also appreciate all of my band mates before them: Willy, Pablo, Adam, Mike, and Kian.
See you on the road!
-Dave

I know there a bunch of bands that do crossover, but is that all a lot of these bands do? I like crossover in moderation and then the band transitions into a heavy riff and different key, that's what gets me goin'

Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer. Try reading the thread a little bit before asking silly questions about Slipknot. :(

I'm thinking I might want to dip my toes in the 00's "thrash revival." i.e. Skeletonwitch, Municipal Waste, Toxic Holocaust, etc. What album should I start with?

Those mentioned bands are not the most typical and by no means among the best of the "NWoTM" in my book.

10 albums that I would recommend:

Sanity's Rage - You Are What You Swallow
In Malice's Wake - Light Upon The Wicked
Lazarus A.D. - The Onslaught
Nekromantheon - Rise, Vulcan Spectre
Hatchet - Dawn Of The End
Shrapnel - The Virus Conspires
Hellcannon - Infected With Violence
Space Eater - Aftershock
Comaniac - Return To The Wasteland
Lethal - Annihilation Agenda

Anybody here know about Vorbid?
http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Vorbid/3540415827

They play kinda' proggy thrash metal, reminds me somewhat of Testament but they've got their own thing going on for the most part. I'm digging it quite a bit, plus that soloing... :headbang:
They are pretty much starting out, show them some love. :-P

Looking for VERY specific progressive/technical thrash recommendations (demos or albums):

What I like: Watchtower, Toxik, Intruder (Psycho Savant), Azrael (Televison Slave), Annihilator (1st two), Voivod (all), Immaculate (Atheist Crusade), Tourniquet (1st 3), Hades, Sadus, Savage Steel, Obliveon (From this Day Forward), Flaming Anger, Toxin, Artillery, Elysium, Indestroy, Deafen, Von Hellsing, Droys, Deadly Blessing, Altered State, Helstar, Forbidden, Vulture, Azotic Reign, Altered Aeon, Dark Angel, Visitor, Crionic, Entophyte, Destruction (Cracked Brain)

What I've heard but isn't really what I'm looking for: Vektor, Havok, Hexen, Hellwitch

I've heard all the standard thrash stuff.

Bonus points if it has high screaming vocals a la Halford!

Any suggestions?

Ever heard Believer's Sanity Obscure? The lyrics and the U2 cover are questionable, but the rest it's quite awesome prog/thrash whirlwind riffing

Of course. I've heard all the early Believer stuff. Thanks anyway though.

Sargent Salsten is one of my favorite extreme vocalists of all time. Full Moon Sorcery has earned a place in the pantheon of insane performances.

------

Tech thrash: I'm sure you're aware of these Jim but since there was so much name-dropping, might as well drop some more!

Whiplash- Insult to Injury (high pitched vocals and all. The tech side of Whiplash. Godly)

Trallery- Spanish thrashers, lots of tech elements although not pure tech. The instrumentals are the most obvious examples (Assassin introspection is very Coroner-ish)

Verdict Denied - Greeks, great music but very mediocre vocals unfortunately (they are aware of the problem, they just can't find a suitable singer)

Nylithia- Hyperthrash, good new thrash with some tech overtones.

Aggression- Spanish tech thrash, not extreme tech but very good. Vocals are subpar though as well.

Nocturnus- Thresholds

...and +1 for Sacral Rage

Just had "Spiritless" in the mail today. Indeed a great piece of light tech stuff and another sign for the very strong spanish thrash scene nowadays.

Nylithia is pretty cool stuff too - kinda mix of thrash and a pc-game.

I'm still digesting Spiritless. It's good but I was kinda disappointed because they got a bit more modern and less trad. They had both elements on the debut but the trad was definitely more prominent while the modern element was a flavor here and there. Still, it's good stuff and I think it will eventually click. Catalepsy is my favorite Spanish record though, I absolutely LOVE it.

I like it when a band has a traditional base and adds a contemporary finish.

Best spanish thrash albums in my book:

Angelus Apatrida - Evil Unleashed / Give 'em War
Aggression - MoshPirit
Legen Beltza - Dimension Of Pain
Mutant Squad - Titanomakhia
Stillnes - Sin Destino

Got a few here:

Acid Storm - Biotronic Genesis

Reminds me Forbidden, except rawer and less technically refined.

Bezerker - Lost

This band should fit your vocal requests quite snuggly. Some very inspired riffing on this one.

Terrahsphere - Third in Order of the Sun.

Pretty bonkers tech-thrash with a very cool lo-fi science fiction aesthetic.

I'm on a thrash metal spree recently, and I'm looking for Bay Area inspired thrash metal bands with lyrics that have deeper (or intelligent) meanings, like Evile, Atrophy, and Tantara. I'm not necessarily looking for social commentary bands.

Looking for dark, evil death/thrash, but specifically not in the "Brazilian school of thrash" kind of way but in a more controlled, semi-technical fashion along the lines of Ripping Corpse or Revenant. No post-1999 recommendations, please.

You've probably heard of all these, but just in case you haven't:

Nocturn - Estranged Dimensions
Fairly unheard of gem from the Netherlands, fits your description to a tee. Check out the track 'Graveyard without Crosses' for the best demonstration of their technical-ness.

Sororicide - The Entity
Definitely more death than thrash, but also a pretty underrated gem from Iceland, and renowned for being incredibly sinister sounding, particularly the opening track 'Human Recycling'.

Panacea - Is it a Human?
Very eccentric and weird technical thrash somewhat similar to Prophecies of a Dying World... but kinda not. Kind of like if Revenant took cues from Accu§er.

Any suggestions?

Forgot to mention Target -Master Project Genesis. This might have more of the vocal style you're looking for too.

I was about to recommend Target as well. You may like Realm.

Looking for absolutely mind blowing thrash metal albums strictly from 2014-2016. Leave out Metallica and Megadeth :D

This is really subjective but I thought these albums were pretty good:

Impalers - God From The Machine (2015)
Harlott - Proliferation (2015)
Suicidal Angels - Division of Blood (2016)
Angelus Apatrida - Hidden Evolution (2015)
Warfect - Scavengers (2016)
Dust Bolt - Awake The Riot (2014)
Space Eater - Passing Through The Fire to Molech (2014)
