Can anyone recommend any doomy thrash/thrash with plentiful lower mid tempo breakdown "groove" type riffs. Anything from Dream Death to even Exhorder.

^ Seventh Angel is a hybrid of doom and thrash. If you haven't heard of them, I would recommend the 2nd album.

I am a big black metal fan and have a bit of interest in Thrash I love all the German thrash bands. I discovered a couple of great bands that I was told play blackened thrash. I am not the kind of person who takes that much notice of genre names but I wanted to find more bands that sounded like them. They are Nocturnal Graves and Cruel Force and wanted to know could I get some recommendations of bands or albums that fall into this kind of music. I am familiar with the more popular bands like Absu, Witchery, Nifelheim and Vulcano those kind of bands.

I am a fan of the sound of the album The Rise of Satanic Might by Cruel Force anything along those lines I would be happy with but I am open to any recommendations. I will listen to all recommendations and give feedback when I can, thanks.

Lots of stuff out there. Here is a list to help get you started. If it doesn't sound like Venom, Celtic Frost, early Bathory etc I'll make a note of it.

Inepsy (Has a big Motorhead vibe)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8LscrSOdvk

Power from Hell (Early Bathory style)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1MVgCcR9X4

Trench Hell (Venom and Celtic Frost influenced)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWnB1YUlgwI

Midnight (One of the more well known ones. Another black n' roll band)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvENCRNKCQo

Sarcoma Inc (Not sure if this is the style of black/thrash you want but this is a great album. Daemon of Limbonic Art's project)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRo-80V0-eU

Witchmaster (Inferno of Behemoth on drums. Again not sure if this is the style you want)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWKFLQQ8jao

Sauron (Really dirty blackened/thrash)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fq2ySJ_Gp2w

Ketzer (Their debut is a favorite of mine. Full of great riffs)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tannEi0FYq8

Desaster (My favorite black/thrash band, and they have a pretty extensive career with some albums sounding more like black metal and some more like thrash. All good stuff though)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQm2F4epcgo

Witchtrap (South America has a ton of bands. Here is one of my favorites)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFUNMhARocs

Daemon has been one of my favorite black metal vocalists ever since I first heard Limbonic Art back around 2003. It really fits a black/thrash sound. Dark, and gritty, and a bit on the evil side, but not too difficult to understand what he is singing. Sarcoma Inc. never seems to get much recognition for some reason.

Yeah, totally underrated band, and well...his first band Infinite Decay was thrash. That always remained a large part of his riffing style, which is quite obvious on later Limbonic Art.

Hey nekrokult, for blackened thrash I highly recommend you try Nekromantheon's "Rise Vulcan Spectre". A personal favourite of mine and not too dissimilar to the albums you mentioned. Enjoy.

Seconding Sauron. If I recall correctly, they write some nice riffs.

I am looking for some slower to mid-tempo thrash.

the whole song is great, but skip to around 1:35 for the riff!!

Witchtrap is super raw and old school, but Im open to anything mid paced like this... anything out there?

You might want to check out 'Recesses for the Depraved' by Sacrosanct. Most of the riffs are mostly mid-paced crunches with some progressive flourishes here and there. They even shared some members from Pestilence I believe.

My favorite thrash is that of the early 90's thrash/death variety. Stuff like Demolition Hammer, Solstice, Protector, Devastation, Invocator's demos and first record, Sadus, Hellwitch, Morbid Saint, etc... blisteringly fast mixed with punishingly heavy mid tempo/groovy parts. I'm mostly looking for bands from that era I may have missed but if there's a newer band that is doing that kinda stuff well I'll certainly take a listen... I'm already familiar with Nekromantheon... and don't recommend Merciless Death.

I'd even be into hearing bands that verge on stuff like Resurrection's 'Embalmed Existence', stuff that treads a little harder on the death metal side of things and sticks to the punishing parts but still has fast parts occasionally.

Regale me with your brutal thrash metal knowledge.

Hypnosia is the obvious choice that wasn't mentioned.

Insanity's 'Death after Death' is a stone-cold classic. There's also Num Skull's 'Ritually Abused', though it was released within the late 80's and last but not least Overthrow's 'Within Suffering' is a lost treasure.

Thanks for the recommendations dudes!

@ Temple of Blood: Brutality rules. Not sure how I've avoided them up til now. Songs like Cryptorium off Screams of Anguish is just what I was looking for. They're a little heavy on the blasty death metal sections to really be in the same category as DH, Solstice, etc in my mind but they're close enough!

@wrathchild: Definitely familiar with Hypnosia! Just forgot them on my list, brain is a little foggy these days! Great rec tho.

@Rippingheadache: I've checked out Insanity before and it didn't really rope me in but I just checked out that '85 demo and it kills so I need to revisit the rest of their stuff. Num Skull I am familiar with and enjoy. Was not familiar with Overthrow however and they kill, definitely digging this!

@androdion: I totally thought Noisem was some nu-grind bullshit and thus have never checked them out. Jamming Agony Defined right now and it's pretty spot on as far as the blisteringly fast requirement goes.

Hey guys,

I'm looking for bands with a certain vocal style similar to early Kreator (songs like Cry War), Blood Feast, Assassin, Hellish Crossfire, Eliminator - Krieg Thrash, maybe also Sauron.

difficult to describe. it is built a bit deaper in the throat, raspy-lemmy-like-testosterone vocals.

name everything you know please, no matter how shitty or obscure, it's real trigger for me!

thanks!

If you find any let me know. I've been a big fan of that style since I was blown away by Exhorder's Desecrator when it first came out. Not much love here or in the metal world in general for groove anymore.

Throwdown - Intolerance ... I imagine you probably know about this one

Incite - Up In Hell ... Max Cavalera's kid

Symbolic Weapon - Death Train

Some older ones I've recently run across ...

The Destro ... both their albums are good

Biomechanical - Empires of the World

Neck Sprain - God's Snake

In the lack of a better word, I'm searching for some thrash ballads. You know, something like these:

Metallica - Fade to Black / Welcome Home
Heathen - Prisoners of Fate
Testament - The Legacy
Death Angel - Room With a View

Thanks guys!

Basically Overkill's "Fade to Black," and insanely good. I suggest you listen to "Nice Day for a Funeral" first since it sort of leads into it.

I definitely recommend Deliverance (USA). The best metal band I've heard in a while; in the veins of Metallica, Kreator, Sodom, Exodus, Testament and the likes.
