I have not read everything to see if my fave bands have been mentioned, so here they are

The Vision Bleak, especially their most recent works which won record of the month on Angry mal Guy:

Most know of them, this album earned a 4.5 out of 5 stars on Angry Metal Guy and well deserved:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/qjaCqERN8f0" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

A 4.0 out of 5 from Angry Metal Guy:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/skvEUz0ukUk" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Another 4.0 from A.M.G., Novembre are very beautiful and poetic:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/aEqLvqJvD0M" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Tristania's Beyond the Veil is hands down one of the best metal albums of all time:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ILGr8LFZ_dU" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

This band is amazing at blending genres, just ear candy for those that dig complex music:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/i9PkXhMsxfc" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Resonance Room, their debut is a concept album in a way that tells a story:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/-1awlNtKfQs?start=750" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Paradise Lost's Draconian Times also being one of the best metal albums of any genre:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/N_WQ9mmdal0" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I personally like their album Icon more:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Yoy1UNRABQ8" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Most people know of Moonspell, I feel Wolfheart is my favorite with Memorial a close second

Midnattsol has been around for several years but Goth metal legend Liv Kristine brought them much deserved attention:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/0tKI3r6XTeQ" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Luca Turilli's short-lived Dreamquest's vocalist deserves some attention:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/iqzVrEa_MdQ" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Her voice has always transfixed me:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/jM2s5YuHQtA" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Echoes of Eternity, their albums are beautiful works of art:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/icJiUUBp1Po" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Lastly, just for fun because you mentioned Gothic clubbing (which I've done my fare share of in the past), Spectrum X:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/MzfR_7eBW9Q" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

What about early Coronatus?

I'd add Swallow. From the days when "gothic/death" was very much a thing. Couldn't get into their comeback stuff at all =((

Also, as much as I love Amorphis, I don't really think they qualify at all for this thread in any of their eras unless there's something I'm overlooking.

Not musically, absolutely, but for almost ten years they had that one guy who routinely out-gothed any goth metal lyricist without even trying. And he kinda looked the part Tuonela onwards. As a result, the Russian Amo fandom at the beginning of the century had lots of goth-looking ladies (whose very presence used to weird out all the honest death metal dudes, hehe).

I can't help but to dislike female vocals in this music... Why is that considered gothic? Wouldn't it make much more sense to have a vocal style like The Equinox ov the Gods?

YES, Equinox Ov The Gods, especially the first 2 albums are GODLIKE. The mix of relative simplicity and clarity, powerful vocals, the speed that is just right, memorable melodies and catchiness, sad and haunting lyrics... Can you (or anyone, for that matter) recommend something similar?

Just saw this thread! Great!! Here’s one I’d recommend. Not sure how to classify, but like it’s right out of late 80s/early 90s... Magical.

Hi all! It is just me or is it hard to find some great gothic metal this year? While there seems to be a good amount of enjoyable doom/death metal releases, I am missing something in the style of Sentenced, Anathema (1996-2012 era) and Katatonia (until they became too proggy). It would also not hurt to find some great "beauty & the beast" music, like Theatre Of Tragedy or Draconian. I tried Lord Of Shadows (disappointing), Shores Of Null and Hanging Garden (both okay, but nothing special), so I am looking forward to get some other ideas here! So far, Decadence Dust has made a great impression, so that would be my tip for some light-weight, female fronted goth metal from 2023.

Tenebre sounds like a metal version of old school goth-rock. Check them out.

Maybe you should try Unto Others (previously known as Idle Hands), they take an interesting approach to modern goth metal.

Flowers in Dark released a decent gothic/doom album last year in the way of Draconian. It went well under the radar, but it's one of the better albums within the niche that I've heard in the past few years.

I love Type O Negative so much I really hope another band takes after them. I can only think of Frown (boring) and October Noir (just alright)

Good question.I don't think so.Besides Evanescence has some gothic rock,i still feel some nu metal influences.

Hi guys.I am listening to Type O Negative discography and it's awesome. But i feel their sound looks like a new wave/synth pop with the heavyness of doom metal. But i am still confused about what is exactly the genre.

It is not doom, how heavy this can be. It's hardly metal too! It's some gothic heavy melo rock to me.
Nothing like them, they are their own genre, as the tag on BC is a sign of:

Mmm very reductive and also just wrong. It depends on the album and song, really. First two albums are absolutely metal bordering on thrash metal, due to the fact a lot of it is re-used Carnivore material. Later on it's more heavy/doom metal to my ears if not just very unique gothic metal. October Rust is arguably the least metal release and I'd see where you're coming from if you had only heard that and maybe Bloody Kisses.

They are not their own genre though, that phrase is used very flimsily in my opinion. Very unique sound, yes, I've spent a lot of time trying to find bands that sound like them, but they are not their own genre. And frankly I don't really think any band is? What use is a genre label if it only describes one band?

Possible that my judgement is a bit rough about them not being metal. They're, to me, one of those bands that sit on the fence: metall-ish goth rock, rock-ish metal. I'm basing my opinion on the most emblematic albums, those you cite, yes.

The simple fact that you haven't found many bands like them, perhaps not even one, avowed copycats aside, is an indication of a uniqueness that can be dissected and detailled to the point that their sound serves as a tag, a kind of clothing that other bands put on to look like them, because they acknowledge them to be more than an influence but, I don't know, a blueprint of sorts...
