I'm looking for, prefereably early eighties, heavy metal bands with lyrics concerning vampires/vampirism. Or if it is specifically dark sounding, I'd be pleased also.

hm... I don't think I know any bands exclusively dealing with this theme, but Mercyful Fate's song, "Return of the Vampire" comes to mind most immediately.

Not heavy metal per se, but Blue Oyster Cult's song, "Nosferatu" is really good... Other than that, I can't think of any off the top of my head.

EDIT: If you're willing to delve into more rock territory, there's "Night of the Vampire" by Roky Erikson and the Aliens, which is a pretty dark and brooding song, though not heavy metal.

Do you know Helstar's album Nosferatu? Great 80's power metal about Dracula.

Entombed did a cover version of that, so you get the best of both worlds.

Obviously there's also Slayer's "At Dawn They Sleep". Mostly it's just songs here and there and that Helstar album. Otherwise you have all those 90s black-lite bands like Cradle of Filth, Ancient, Abyssos and the like (actually Abyssos is more like Dissection-meets-vampires...)

It doesn't have to be all the band ever dealt with, but some songs here and there, as the aforementioned "Return of the Vampire" or "Désir De Vampyr" by Blaspheme. All recommendations regarding CoF-bands and alike can gtfo.

How's no one recommended Grim Reaper's Night of the Vampire yet?

Pentagram's Vampyre Love, though it was released in 1994:

Also worth a suggestion, though not sure whether it's exactly what you want: power metal band Domain have a 25 minute saga about the rise and fall of a vampire clan. :D
