This thread can apply to bands for genres like alternative metal, nu metal, funk metal, rap metal, and even grunge/post-grunge to an extent.

What are some nu meal bands out there that barely use rapping?

Also, what are some alternative metal bands that actually sound metal or have influences from many metal bands?

I quite like Stone Sour's last two albums.. they're catchy as hell, borderline thrashcore half the time, and having former members of Skid Row and Suicidal Tendencies as the rhythm section certainly didn't hurt (even though Rachel Bolan was just a session musician)

Probably the first funk/metal band I know of (aside from obvious forerunners like Geezer Butler and Roger Glover, both of whom injected large amounts of funk into their respective bands at times) is Mordred:

I also have a soft spot for Infectious Grooves, not to mention Suicidal Tendencies. Everything they did with Robert Trujillo is some seriously funky shit:

Funk metal and funk rock were actually two of the first genres I got into about 20 years ago before I liked metal.

I'm also a big fan of Infectious Grooves, Suicidal Tendencies and Cyco Miko, though I'd refer to the former as funk metal and the latter two more as crossover thrash/punk.

One of my favorite funk metal/rock bands that MA doesn't have is the 24-7 Spyz.

Their stuff is a really good mix of funk, rap, metal, rock and even some R &B.

I remember hearing them for the 1st time when I saw this video on Beavis and Butthead as a teenager:

Here's another:

I have all of their albums except for their most recent one after reforming.

I also really like Living Colour, Fishbone, Kings X, RHCP etc even though most of them aren't really "metal" but IMO 24-7 Spyz are and should be on here.

Well, I think I'm going to sound obvious, but...

SOAD has no "rapping", as far as I can hear, and it's a fantastic band, with a completely unique style (albeit somewhat commercial).

Slipknot has never made "rap metal" too...and their Iowa album is one of the most aggressive METAL albums I've heard so far. For me Iowa could easily be classified as a DM album (if only for its sheer aggressivity).

And why not mention the "fathers" of 'rap metal', Faith No More? Yeah, I know this sounds obvious, but they were awesome.

Umm... Slipknot's first single, Spit It Out has rapping in it. Their first album has several songs with rapping in it. They haven't used it since, though.

Yes I can remember some passages in ther self-titled album, but not too many.

By the way, Slipknot has recently released a new album, and as far as I know they're the only nu metal band that has made it this far. I haven't listened to their new material tho so I can't recommend it.

I'm not a huge fan, but Gemini Syndrome is pretty decent. I saw them twice last year. They lost one of their guitarists to September Mourning and, in my opinion, it really killed their live show.

I didn't even know this, so I looked it up and discovered

A whole fucking nü metal revival happened.

Limp Bizkit, Korn, Deftones, Linkin Park (I refuse to let them run from the label), Disturbed, Coal Chamber, Staind, and even POD are with Slipknot in terms of nü metal bands that are still active. Some didn't even split up.

If there's any nü metal I enjoy that isn't the usual suspects like SOAD and Deftones, it's Kittie.

Good to know this, even tho I don't like/know most of the bands you mentioned.

This world is big enough for all kinds of music.

Yep, there's an awful music fest in Australia called Soundwave that in previous years has hosted Limp Bizket, Korn, et al. that shit as headliners. Recently they've been lumping some semi-respectable legitimate metal acts into the lineup.

I guess if I had to recommend something you could try that big bad load of marketing King 810 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxeZzxNJQ74 Personally I think it's shit.
