Might be an unusual request, but my band's drummer quit last night and we have two gigs coming up in a week. We're hoping to find a fill-in drummer, but I've proposed this as an option to the rest of the band and I'm looking for live video of bands doing it successfully.

Genre is irrelevant, as long as it's a good performance.

Early Godflesh is the obvious answer:

I used to do this in my old industrial band, so here's some words of advice - decent monitoring is essential. Without the acoustic sound of a real drummer behind you, it can be virtually impossible to follow the drum rhythm over the wash of noise from the amps. We used a separate small PA for the drum machine, which we would stack behind us where a real drummer would be. This also gives a bit more visual focus than the usual empty space.

Best of luck!

Shawn Whitaker of Insidious Decrepancy/Viral Load does it, quite well too : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kielk0G5GSE

Fuck I'm Dead also : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUhhTwZNtc8

and Putrid Pile : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22OiRFvS5o0

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. So yeah it's definitely possible and it works for some bands, but it'll definitely change people's perception of you, some will automatically write you off when they see you guys with a drum machine.

There's always Darkspace. Programmed drums, but live guitars/bass/vocals. Would love to see them perform.
