I have heard a fair bit of death metal and have always found myself leaning more towards the oldschool death metal sound. Lately I have been listening to Grotesque and wish to hear more bands in a similar style. It's fine if it is a more well known band that maybe I have forgotten or overlooked or somehow haven't come across yet. Here are some examples of what I am looking for.

Grotesque

Morbid Flesh

Morbid Flesh is a bit more doomy than the other two but still is very thick in a filthy atmosphere. As much as I love the Finnish bands like Demigod, and Purtenance that is not exactly what I am looking for right now. I'm fine with newer bands as long as they retain that gritty oldschool production.

Bone Sickness and Bastard Priest are not old school and in fact started less than ten years ago.

Also Bone Sickness are possibly the coolest thing to come out of Olympia. Carry on.

The OP listed Tribulation and specifically mentioned that he's open to newer bands.

Anyway, perfect opportunity for me to rave about how awesome Innsmouth are.

I said newer bands are fine and Tribulation and Morbid Flesh are both modern.


Wasn't a fan of Cerebrate. Has a very rehearsal quality and the feedback on the guitars is overbearing. Haven't heard Bone Sickness before. They sound good on first listen. Very chaotic and I like the sick vocals.

Already familiar with Bastard Priest and enjoy them. More punk oriented than what I am looking for but still very filthy.

Thanks for Innsmouth. A good example and another band for me to look more into.
