Well, so far the only metal bands combining metal with pop music elements I know are/were just glam metal (itself a subgenre of heavy metal/hard rock combining glam rock (itself based from pop rock) aesthetics, which include punk rock and pop music elements). But are there some bands that are not glam metal but combine metal with pop music elements?

Sure. The most obvious one I can think of is Torche.

I would say a fair bit of melodeath stuff has a lot of pretty blatant pop/rock elements, too. For example, recent Insomnium is like depressive, Agalloch-y melodeath with some pretty pop-sounding influences:

Devin Townsend Project does that a lot, especially on Addicted, and to a lesser extent Epicloud.

edge of sanity's sacrificed comes to mind

also, perhaps a bit obvious, but a lot of europower bands do that sort of thing

Stratovarius is a big one; definitely metal with the right style of riffs, etc. But a lot of their songs have supremely pop-oriented choruses and hooks, as such: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNs0f07-I1U

Amaranthe are pretty much metallic pop music.

Serious question: someone define pop for me. When I think of pop, at least modern day pop, I usually think of crap like Kesha, Lady Gaga, LMFAO, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, and all that other bullshit that I actively try to avoid, yet end up hearing the songs a bunch of time anyways.

Also, unless I'm missing something, I don't hear ANY pop in that Insomnium song. Just because it's melodic does not mean that it's pop!

Ah yes, the death metal phenomenon that is the Super Bowl.

Agree with this guy (but I like some Lady Gaga). OP, What do you mean with pop? Seems like anything in metal that is melodic with catchy hooks is called pop, it makes no sense what so ever. All metal used to be like that back in the the day, before "extreme metal". So a description of what you are actually looking for would help a lot.

The pop I mean here is either their riffs sound like pop rock (or pop punk) or the theme is just like pop music (I prefer the first one more).

Try Twinaleblood by the band Pyogenesis. It's a weird transitional album that sees them going from their earlier death/doom sound into kind of a Weezer-ish Pop rock sound
