Damn straight! LotR-themed black/thrash. :headbang::hail::headbang:

Also, Boss, you should definitely check out Headshot, damn good German thrash. Read my review or DGYDP's for more details on how awesomesauce it is.

I don't know about essential, but Meltdown is pretty fucking solid.

http://www.myspace.com/meltdown

Hatchet are also pretty good, although they do sound similar to a lot of the other bands coming out of the Bay Area right now. You might dig it.

http://www.myspace.com/hatchet2006

You might also like Strikemaster's "Up for the Massacre".

http://www.myspace.com/strikemaster666

Note: None of these bands compare to Sauron, or even Gama Bomb, but if you like Merciless Death/FBF/BbB you might be into them.

Also, if you're into the black/thrash stuff (which I don't really count as part of this "retro" movement, per se) I'd definitely recommend getting Devastator's "Nuclear Proliferation" or "Morbid Force", Nocturnal's "Arrival of the Carnivore", and if you don't mind some Burzum-esque shrieks you might want to look into Front Beast's "Black Spells of the Damned".

Well, in a sense, yes they are retro since they are from the early days of thrash.

MELTDOWN.

It really pisses me off no one mentions them when "Executioner" has far more lasting value than most of the other bands.

Would someone please recommend some thrash bands that use a lot of blues style in their music?

Thrash isn't a very blues-heavy genre... but Poltergeist's Depression has some influences there. They even finish the song Writing on the Wall, with some straight-up blues sample(?).

I always buy CDs. But it's just totally stupid to buy a CD without hearing anything about it first. I've made that mistake a total of 3 times, and each time I've been so mad after buying it and wasting my money. Thus I download first, then buy. I have like almost 400 CDs...

the only reason i buy is if i have heard it on the radio or internet, i agree it is totally retarded to buy something you have no idea about. my dad has over 1000 CD's and climbing, its crazy.

Buying after listening to it first is a good idea, but buying without listening isn't necessarily "totally retarded."

My favorites from this movement are:

Torture Squad
Violator
Meltdown
Hypnosia

Not all of them are original, but they all can play well.

Violator is the perfect retro-thrash band, I swear their debut is perfect. It's almost as good as the quality thrash released in the 80's and I'd say it's probably listened to more than a lot of those releases. Something about it, the riffs, the vocals, the riffs... Just awesome thrash. :metal:

this is a long thread, and I'm coming into it on the latter end, so I did not read though all of it to know if anybody mentioned these guys already. But I definitelty reccomend Avenger Of Blood to anyone who has not heard them. They capture the old school Euro thrash sound very well, (but they're from the U.S.) without sounding like a clone of any of the classic Euro thrash bands.

Their new album Death Brigade absolutely slays. The track Poserslaughter is a great metal anthem to play for all the metalcore and nu-metal kids. LOL!

Yep, Death Brigade most definitely slays.

EDIT: Everyone stop what you're doing and get Aspid's Extravasation. Fucking awesome prog/tech thrash from Russia!

That twin guitar solo was pulled off perfectly.

Was Lee the one with the ridiculously tight pants on the left? I wasn't able to tell due to the camera not getting close up but also I'm not sure exactly what he looks like nowadays.

The main reason why I was in a state of euphory. Not only are they playing live, BUT they are also in perfect shape and haven't shown a single indication that they're 20 years older now. There's another European tour in the winter, which means that they might be presenting the new album then (wishful thinking).

Great find, this guy has some fucking awesome videos. The one of Razor in Norwalk is shit quality but the "crowd" made it entertaining. At least looked like the band was having fun.

edit: Holy shit the crowd in the "Cro-Mags" video. Thomash would not have a good time.
