Title track from the new album.

Being a live vid, the sound isn't ideal, but still, holy fuck. I'm ordering this.

As you say, the sound isn't great, but this still intrigues me. I can't really say much more beyond that... I'd need to hear a better-quality version; it's certainly promising.

On a side note - tiny stage, though Rotten Sound (who, according to the uploader, were the headliners) played on a similar-size stage here. People of the world, welcome to the Antipodes.

Rowh, rowh rowh rowh!!

Anyone else think those vocals are terrible, or am I the only one? It's half growl, half yell, it tries way too fucking hard, and it's complete shit. In my opinion.

Yeah I'm hoping that's just how his live voice sounds, because that wasn't to great. The music itself seems to be fine I guess. It's just ye olde Ulcerate.

From what I could make out, it sounds like normal Ulcerate, nothing super mindblowing. I will say this though, I did not know that they only have one guitar player now. He must have one hell of a loop station on that pedal board.

Vocals sounded like ass. Every word was inflected the same way and it got annoying pretty fast.

Riffs sound tasty, though.

It's how he sounded on the itunes preview clip for the album, so we're shit out of luck. (It's also how he sounded on Destroyers.) Why, why, why did he change his vocal style after everything is fire? (or: why do they not bury the vocals in the mix like they did with EOF?) Does no one else in the band have the heart to tell him how crappy he sounds? I just get frustrated because this band has SO much potential. They could be the undisputed kings of modern death metal if they took the EOF formula and built on it. There are parts of the twisted aggression of EOF that Bob Vigna couldn't write on his best day. But instead they developed an endless hard-on for their atmosphere (which IMO is really only truly effective when surrounded by the razor-sharp brutality of EOF), changed the vocals for some unknown reason, downplayed the brilliant sludgy neurosis-influence, pacified the music, and started writing totally unmemorable riffs. Oh well, it's their band, not mine. But fuck it's irritating. I want an EOF part 2 goddamnit.

When I saw them they had trouble setting up because Jamie's kit couldn't fit on the stage. They had to turn one of the cabs almost sideways to fit everything. They were still fantastic. Huge wall of noise under that arch.

That vid sounds solid other than the vocals, but I'll get used to them.

Ain't that the truth. EOF is and will be their crowning achievement (unless you really dig the even more janky OFAF sound).

what is EOF? you mean EIF? as in Everything Is Fire? I thought it was just a typo at first but I notice you both keep typing it like that...

Me too, but usually from mediocre or shitty bands that don't have the potential to sit atop their genre.

I honestly don't see the huge complaint with the vocals. I figured that's all on a matter of taste and for me to hate vocals they have to be exceptionally shitty. Usually to me vocals that aren't sung to any harmony are just a rhythmic instrument to me so I don't really pay special attention to them.

Song sounds good enough to please me and guarantee I'll pick up the new album.

Tbh, the vocals don't seem to different on TDoA than they are on EiF. Just a slight bit less buried and a bit more throaty.

Hmm, seems more... Mitochondriony, lots more sliding around to make screeches than straight up jangly and loose like the previous albums. It's actually given me some serious interest, while I loved AiF, TDoE was awful, and basically felt like the drummer playing nonsense while the guitarist played boring twangs. This seems to have some momentum behind it again, not in the same way AiF did, as I said, it's Mitochondriony, but colour me interested.

I'm expecting this as one of the best releases in 2013... just bought "Of Fracture And Failure" and this one is already in my wantlist with all the others.

So many people fucking up their acronyms in this thread...

The vocals don't sound any different than they've sounded since the second full-length, or at least whatever "change" has happened is so minute that I don't notice it. Their vocals aren't the reason I listen to them anyways.

Haha, whoops. When I wrote it I thought I might have had the second one wrong since I forgot the name of the album, but EiF wrong was a surprise.

yea if I was going to complain about any vocals it would've been those on Of Fracture And Failure. I remember buying that and enjoying the music but hated the vocals. I was really shocked at how great Everything Is Fire was and glad they kicked the ass singer out.

some people actually prefer the vocalist on the debut, I am not one of those people though. I really have no problem at all with their current vocalist, he's nothing special. he's just kinda there which is fine to me...

I tend to disagree with you on that. But I play guitar so I can naturally hear what is to be achieved and I find it interesting to listen to them separated from the mix.

Looks like there might be a bit more faster material... well faster focused material. Perhaps more of a balance of that and the more wandering stylings.

As if I didn't need any further hints that the drummer is a god.

Yeah, as good as he may be, I hope it isn't overdone with regards to the rest of the stuff. So far, that little clip of the drummer was enjoyable even without the backing music. September is gonna be a good month for new music - Gorguts (an almost september release), Carcass (lukewarm but still hopeful) and now this. Also, I'll say it again, every time I see these promo videos, my love for that shirt grows exponentially. I might have to get that bundle from Relapse eventually.

The live song seemed to show his drumming was more connected to the music than the grating last album. The dude is an insane player and if they can learn to control him it'll be incredible.

The guitar playing sounds excellent to me. He's got a good, crisp, clean tone which helps those natural harmonics, the 8ths and 9ths, and ringing notes come out clear as day, and it helps that his playing is also very clean.

I'm a guitar player too and it sounds silly to me. Then again, I rarely play overly dissonant things like SLK. But like I said , with the second guitar + layers + drums it will probably sounds huge. It does sound a lot more busy than anything off Destroyers of All, that's for sure.

Man, that vocal style on the live song sounds terrible. He's throwing in a bit of a metalcore flair for every vowel. The vocals on EIF are perfect, TDOA, a little less so, but not bad. I really hope that's not what it sounds like on the new album; that could ruin it for me.

Yeah I really don't hear anything that resembles metalcore in this, or at least not anything that sounds "bad" in that regard.

Not sure if "metalcore" is the right word, but I know what ld50 is talking about. I referred to it as a kind of "yell" that has infused the growl. But whatever the fuck we call it, it sounds pretty fucking shitty.
