I have no doubt it will be a Power Metal album like Power Quest or something, but i want to know what you think is the happiest, most uplifting metal album out there.

No clue, but maybe something from Freedom Call? They get uplifting and really happy in many of their songs.

Also. Helloween-Future World. That song always brings a smile to my face.

Definetly the happiest metal song ever. As for an album, I think maybe Beer Bear's album Мёд would qualify. Beer, Bears, forest noises, and folk instruments. Also the fact that they are Russian.

Lykathea Aflame's Elvenefris is a pretty obvious answer, but even then I'd hesitate to call it the absolute happiest.

Off the top of my head, there's an infamously cheesy black metal song on Nargaroth's album Jahreszeiten: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlSG6GUbsuU

EDIT: Azure Emote are another ridiculously cheesy band, like a eunuch version of Mithras: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvcvnLDADp0

Power Quest - Neverworld - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7c8CSD6rqM
Freedom Call - Eternity - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYI-nuOnv-c

Really can't decide which one's happier, but both have endless cheer and good will about them, and are kick ass to boot.

My vote goes to Power Quest-Magic Never Dies. Find My Heaven may be the happiest song I've heard.

I think we can all agree that Power Quest is the Happiest and most "Feel Good" metal band in general.

Hell look at "Better Days" from their album Blood Alliance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQ11RP8j9tU

"Living the life that I've got to live
All I've ever dreamed of
Giving it all that I've got to give"

While maybe not outright happy (some songs on there still rock pretty hard), I always thought Gamma Ray's "No World Order" sounded pretty upbeat, and dare I say even uplifting at times.

Probably some polka-metal album.

I mean, music doesn't get any happier than this...

My pick is Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde by Alcest. The track Ciel Errant is nothing but pure bliss. Everytime I listen to it I want to be whisked away to a better place where all is love and nothing is sad. It sounds like the perfect soundtrack to a first kiss to me.

Deafheaven's upcoming album, based only on hearing Dream House, might challenge Alcest for that title though.

:hyper: Yay! Hearts and UNICORNS!!!!!!

I always thought it was funny that the most aggressive song on that album had such a name :-P

I'd give my vote to Stratovarius since I'm not familiar with PowerQuest and I haven't heard Freedom Call in a long time, but, now that I think about it, not only many of their songs were rather melancholic or angsty, but the person that wrote them was Timo Tolkki, which is known to have a few psychological issues (can't remember which one right now), and that makes me feel at times that their "happy" songs were not written because he wanted to express how "happy" or motivated he felt while writing them, but because that's how he LONGED to feel. Obviously this is just an inference backed up by nothing and might just be a product of drinking too much sugar...

This band must be the happiest one hahaha, the music is happy and poweful as fuck, I smile every time I listen to them. :D

Any folk/polka metal band makes very happy music, not only with the melodies but also with the lyrics.

Judas Priest's "Turbo"?
Those gung ho songs like "Private Property", "Reckless" and "Parental Guidance" always cheer me up. Also Anthrax's "Among The Living" is substantially happy for me...oh, and Municipal Waste's "The Art of Partying".

So hard to choose...Alcest, Stratovarius, Power Quest and Korpiklaani's drinking songs are all so happy indeed (and "Eagleheart" is an amazing song, good pick, HenryKrinkle!)

I hardly ever listen to whole albums, so I can't really pick out an album, but some other songs that make me really happy are "Signs of your life" by Eden's Curse and "Vessel" by While Heaven Wept.

Dunno what it says about me that both these songs actually have a melancholy edge to them - but I'm the sort of person that also loves melancholy melodeath bands like Insomnium for how uplifted they make me feel O.o I guess "Weather the Storm" could be considered a pretty uplifting song.

If you forced me to pick a whole album, I'd second the person who suggested Alcest's Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde, cause that's the only one I can think of that is consistently happy all the way through. And even then I'd pick "enchanting" or "calming" rather than happy to describe it.

This was my pick. It's only an EP, but you can't get happier while not derailing into lame-territory than this release.

Personally I think the happiest song ever is Meat Loaf's Bat out of Hell. For metal I'd probably agree with those that said folky crap like Korpiklaami or Alestorm.

Some Stratovarius album for sure, though Ghost deserves a honourable mention for being the happiest satanic band.

You guys saying Stratovarius aren't too far off, but I dunno, they're a bit more varied than just straight up happy all the time...

Most of the "happy" stuff in this thread so far just sounds rather energetic and zealous to me. When I think of "happy metal" I think of ridiculously saccharine, unimposing, cheery music which couldn't possibly carry any negative emotions at all.

Devin Townsend's recent Epicloud has to be a contender for sure.

Is there such a thing? I've been trying to think of an example with no success. Considered Korpiklaani's version of "Ievan Polkka" but it actually sounds rather rushed and aggressive, and besides the lyrics are about people arguing..not very happy at all. The OP didn't really define "happy" except to qualify it with "uplifting," which seems like it can include grander feelings than than just happy-go-lucky prancing fairy joyfulness. (but hey, I would listen to joyful metal about prancing fairies...I just can't think of any.)

This too. And Addicted. Particularly "Bend It Like Bender".

On topic (but kinda not really), the last two Anathema albums-despite having heavy lyrical content (coming to terms with one's own mortality)-are purposely upbeat and uplifting. Not (strictly) metal, but whatever.

For me, Edguy's Theater of Salvation is the quintessential uplifting power metal album.

Yeah when I first saw the song title, I was pretty sure it would be the token ballad and not a full speed power metal assault (not that I was dissapointed, far from it actually). Same with Paint a New World from Helloween's Gambling With the Devil.

I'm surprised noone has mentionned Rhapsody in this thread. They are my go-to band whenever I need to smile.
Also, Freedom Call, seriously

I once went to one of their concert. They are ridiculously happy, and their singer keeps a stupid grin all the time.
