Evil Invaders sprang instantly to mind. They really straddle the line between speed and thrash, this year's 'Shattering reflection' is fucking huge.
Of the old guard, I've always had a soft spot for Metal Church. Always on the more melodic side of thrash, all their discography is good to great, and of course their s/t is a nasty slab of vicious speed metal.

Hexx's first two albums, Atomkraft's Conductors of Noize, Nasty Savage, early Angel Dust, Exorcist's Nightmare Theatre are some that come to mind

Would be quick or be dead by Maiden be considered an “almost thrash” song?

Would the "No Exit" album by Fates Warning qualify as "almost thrash"?

Given that a lot of the recommendations you like seem to be older speed metal/USPM, I'd throw in late 80s Manilla Road, Helstar's A Distant Thunder and Nosferatu, and probably the first Jag Panzer. Maybe even Brocas Helm. Metal Church and Hexx were also both great recommendations.

Was going to suggest mid period Manila Road as well - good call.

Seconding the mentions of early Fates Warning, Nasty Savage, Hexx, Armored Saint and Helstar . . . It kind of bothers me that Helstar's first two albums are hardly ever mentioned. Burning Star is raw but great early 80's underground Heavy Metal and Remnants of War was a CRUCIAL album in assisting me in my move from Hard Rock to Heavy Metal to this new thing called Thrash. I needed these bridge albums by non-Thrash bands that were writing good Heavy Metal but weren't looking for the radio hit.

Pantera - Metal Magic through Power Metal is massively underrated. MM is demo level raw but Projects In The Jungle and I Am The Night are awesome cross sections as to what underground Heavy Metal was like in the mid 80s. Unlike Helstar, they had a song or two per album that was kind of intended for radio if they got noticed.
Abattoir - Vicious Attack is awesome. The legendary Juan Garcia officially starts his long recording career before moving on to Agent Steel and vocalist Steve Gaines begins his career as a LA underground Thrash mascot (Tactics and Anger As Art).
Obsession - Slipped through the cracks. Not heavy enough for the exploding Thrash scene, too heavy for the Poser/Glam scene.
Malice - Same as above but with a slightly better singer. One of the few where you never needed a lyric sheet.
Fifth Angel - All I know is the debut and it's very solid.
Hades - Never was a huge fan of Tecchio's voice but Dan Lorenzo is a riff master.
Heretic - Mike Howe's entry into the Metal Arena.
Anthem - Japanese legends. Their original run from the 80s up into the early 90s is criminally underrated.
Riot - Long career where they stayed under the radar for most of their run after a lot of buzz early on.
Pandemonium - Locally biased here. Three brothers from Fairbanks moved to LA and got noticed by Brian Slagel playing a backyard party in Southern California. Their first ever track on vinyl appears just before Metallica's first ever song on vinyl on Metal Massacre 1.

Metal Massacre 1 through 7 or 8 is a gold mine for pre-Thrash Metal. Lots of great tracks by no-names mixed in with the first songs on vinyl by Metallica, Slayer, Over Kill, Fates Warning, Metal Church, Armored Saint, Hellhammer, Obsession, Voi Vod, Dark Angel, Possessed, Sacred Reich, Flotsam And Jetsam, Znowhite, Malice, Trouble, Omen and Hirax. The first three are all before Kill 'Em All and Show No Mercy were released, #4 came out before Anthrax's Fistful Of Metal and #5 and #6 both came out before Killing Is My Business was released. That's six albums representing what Metal was like before "The Big Four" had a chance to influence other bands as a whole.

Symphony X their last two albums are borderline thrash metal. If you want a mix of power/prog/thrash, that's the band you're looking for.
The song Heretic is the best song Metallica never wrote.

I saw Helstar mentioned a bit above; I think one of Rivera's other bands, Destiny's End is also absolutely worth noting here. I've actually heard their music described as power/thrash or thrashy by some, but MA tags them as simple heavy/power metal and I've heard it said their music is basically just very riffy, heavier heavy metal. Breathe Deep the Dark is a total riff monster and I recommend it to any fan of USPM.
