Post subject:  Difference between Psychedelic Stoner Metal and Stoner Metal
I have no idea if this is in the wrong section or not, but I was wondering what is the difference between Psychedelic Stoner Metal and regular Stoner Metal. I can't really hear any difference, so what makes it psychedelic or not?
For instance, between Orange Goblin (regular) and Wo Fat, Sleestak, or Snail (psychedelic).

Psychedelic stoner bands take hallucinogens and stoner bands only smoke weed?

Seriously it's one of those almost inane and pointless genre tags, like orthodox black metal vs regular black metal. If I had to pinpoint a difference I'd say that psychedelic bands try to incorporate more elements of 70's psych or early doom metal like Pentagram or Sabbath, maybe even delving occasionally into some 60's garage stylings, but really these are so few and far between that it doesn't really warrant its own separate genre

Psychedelic stuff is more psychedelic, duh. More meandering, weird trippy stuff when compared to regulard old drugged out grooves.

Seems like a silly, arbitrary distinction to make. But naming sub-subgenres tends to be silly and arbitrary anyway.

In this case just a lot more delay in the vocals and riffs, a lot more oscillating sound effects, more abstract lyrical matter and just more stereotypically psychedelic sounding bits. It's not like it's really a huge difference, it's just used to describe some newer effects that these bands use, but in the end it's not really necessary. Compare Ufomammut to the general examples of stoner/doom like Electric Wizard, Sleep or Weedeater. There's not a huge difference, but you can see what one does differently.
