Man, the album is like 45 minutes more than their debut, I got a download, I'll check it out soon, looks promising and weird. Definitely one of the best modern swedeath bands.

Thoughts?

Is that the same band as the Swedish thrash metal band Tribulation from the late 1980s? Or a newer, different bunch?

Awesome! The Horror was a great album and they've had four years to work on this one. I'm curious to see how these longer songs end up. Excited nonetheless!

I'm literally thinking "what the fuck?!" down here...

So wait, we're going from a death/thrash 33 minute assault that's pretty much like a polished Repugnant into a 77 minute long album with none other than 8 songs longer than 6 minutes? With one clocking at 11 and another at 14 minutes??? What the fuck?!

This is seriously making me intrigued, plus it being put out on Invictus which seems like a clear step down after the debut being out on Pulverised. There's just so much not making any sense in here...

I'm interested. I liked the Horror. it was pretty good, nothing that was mindblowing or anything.

I'm not digging the artwork. it looks more like something an art rock band from the late 80's / early 90's would've done.

Hint: it's fucking amazing so far. Weird occult mid paced/slow death metal! I really dig the artwork, but yeah, it's kind of a more occult Echo and the Bunnymen style or something.

Also, if this guy is not in Ghost http://www.metal-archives.com/artists/Adam_Zaars/13807 I'll let Veracs touch my balls.

Well I hope it's better than an 'occult Echo and the Bunnymen' cause I really don't like that group at all.

I was comparing the artwork, not the music obviously...

that all blurred together for me. and now that you say that about the artwork.. I don't know I've never seen any echo artwork but i automatically hate it all the more now.

'bout time these guys released something else. Artwork is rather lousy if you compare it to their previous.

Tribulation playing slow is something I'm having a hard time figuring out. And I'll add up to the artwork bashing platoon, it sucks!

I've been pumped for this for a while. I used to search around the usual parts of the internet every couple of months for some sort of indication that new material might be in the offing.

It's hard not to love a new band making OSSDM sound like it's come straight from 1989-1991.

Even though my preference is generally towards more speedy material, I'll give something like this a good chance if it really is that weird and just more out there regardless of the overall tempo. I hesitate to use the word "atmospheric" because that tends to get thrown around a lot (self included,) but if the jackboot fits...

I'm not ready to rip on the artwork quite yet because I can't quite make out all the detail in that pic, whether intentionally or not. The comparatively different and rather minimalist font and title locations could also be what's throwing us off a bit.

It's definitely different from the debut, almost not the same band. It is atmospheric for sure! If you're a huge fan of The Horror, you'll be confused for sure. Personally, I like both albums but it's quite apparent the band got tired of fast old school swedeath and followed another path.

The artwork is easily the best I've seen this year. That and the font remind me of a poster for some obscure classic giallo, which is just awesome. I'll be interested to check this out based on the drastic changes made.

I like bands that aren't afraid of change, especially when they play death metal. stoked for this!

Wow, this was unexpected. I love The Horror but this seems like an entirely different beast. Listened to the song "When the Sky is Black With Devils" which was pretty cool but I want to hear the entire album before making any assumptions.

Carefully enthusiastic about this. I love The Horror but over time I return more often to two of the guy's other band; Stench.

I needed to make sure this was the same Tribulation. I fucking loved The Horror, it seems like they're going in a more Necros Christos direction.

Yeah, good comparison. They don't have the lame interludes though. It will probably leak soon (or you know, it's available or will be soon) I'll await your thoughts, guys!

Exactly what I thought... I love it, really dark! Never heard the band, but the artwork alone makes me want to check it out!

'The Horror' was brilliant. I'm definitely looking forward to this. I wonder though, why the absence of their original logo and the change in direction of their artwork - slightly minimal compared of the Horror.

http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/tribulation

It's available here, you can check previews of the songs. It's supposed to be up on spotify soon for those using this service.

In a new email I received:
Quote:
Expanding their sound entirely beyond the gnarly and vicious death metal that was heard on The Horror, TRIBULATION's The Formulas Of Death sees a much broader and expansive soundscape introduced, favouring atmosphere and evocative instrumental elements to contribute to a very different picture to that of its predecessor. Comparisons have been already made between the progression MORBID ANGEL made between Altars of Madness and Blessed Are the Sick and closer to home for TRIBULATION, the progression from TIAMAT's Sumerian Cry to The Astral Sleep.

I agree with this description, I guess.

it's interesting but i'm disappointed. but i'll probably get it since it wasn't like they were high on my radar and was expecting anything. I refamilarized myself with them today.

going to go check out the song as we speak. sounds like it's way different than the horror, which i thought was catchy as hell.

It hardly even sounds like the same band. I'm not a huge fan of the retro Swedish DM style, but I liked The Horror a lot. I do not like what I've heard so far at all. I will reserve judgement until I hear the full album but my expectations are low.

I'm digging their progression on this album. It's not just a relentless death metal attack anymore. These songs are more complex, interesting, with very detailed arrangements.

You know what... It does sound a little like Darkthrone when the guitars kick in.

I know what you meant, I'm just suprised that it also sounds a bit like Darkthrone. I have only listened to this one song, but I'm already in love with it.
