So the new Light Bearer album dropped last week and I'm interested to people's thoughts on the album.

I've listened to the record a few times, and so far the only impression I've got is that it sounds like a demo, like a precursor to Lapsus rather than a sequel. The songwriting seems very amateur compared to the song structures and production of Lapsus. There are good moments, the title track being a highlight, but it seems they've lost their knack for an epic song on this album.

Anyone who is a fan of the whole post metal/atmospheric sludge genre should check out Light Bearer (though I'd suggest starting with Lapsus).

One can listen to the new album here http://lightbearer.bandcamp.com/album/silver-tongue-2

I'm a HUGE fan of their earlier band Fall of Efrafa, and even though I think "Lapsus" isn't really up to par with their releases it's a monster of an album. Will check this out and let it sink in a bit before I make any judgements on the material.
Cheers for the heads-up though!

Lapsus was a pretty good surprise actually, and it manages to somehow detach itself a bit from the innumerous clones in the scene. I'll check out this new album and get back here later with some first impressions.

I should listen to this new one sometime. I'm a fan of Lapsus so I can't see why I at least wouldn't check this one out.

never was much of a fan of this band. they are alright. Fall of Efrafa is superior in every aspect. Hell I didn't even know that members of FoE were in this... that's how little it sounds like that to me.

I adore FoE, and really enjoyed Lapsus, though it wasn't as good as Elil or Inle. I heard one song from Silver Tongue that I really liked, then heard a couple others that I thought seemed mediocre. Need to give it a serious listen before I decide if I want to buy it. I assumed it would be an auto purchase for me, but now I'm not so sure.

I think the only FoE member in Light Bearer is Alex CF (vocals), isn't it? I find it amusing and kind of strange that there is still a lot of FoE's sound in LB when only the vocalist is the same.

Sometimes people on this board talk about an album that is 'so great', and when you go to check out some reviews, to get a better understanding of their sound, there is none.

You know there's reviews outside MA right?

Yes, of course. I just think it's weird, that some albums are talked about really positively and no one has reviewed them on this site. And not to sound like a idiot, but I often avoid bands with no reviews.

Fair enough. I like to read reviews of stuff that seems interesting before digging in too. But there's a s**t-tonne of sites that review all kinds of metal related stuff out there...

First impressions aren't as negative as I'd expect based on some posts here. The album does seem to be a bit too long and lacks the bite of Lapsus, as well as ends up repeating some of the tricks found there. First two songs seem to be the best of the album but I still need to spin it more times to get a proper picture of what it's really worth.

@693 - Light Bearer sounds a bit like Callisto on their album Noir. They bring to mind some of the dynamics used by Isis or Cult Of Luna, but their writing process is one more based in differentiating each specific aspect of their sound. There are assumed post-rock sections as well as the more sludgy aggressive parts, though sometimes they feel more like post-hardcore. That's my best try for a mini-review. ;)

Thanks, That gave me a basic idea at least. Heard the Callisto album once, not really my thing at that time. But I do like some of the later ISIS, and the newest COL. I guess I have to check out the first album.
