So there seems to be a Shining documentary in the works, and it is set for release in 2014.

Here is the first trailer:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzZuVhG_vZE&feature=youtu.be

I don't know what to think about it, yet, I'll just have to wait and see.

3 hours of Kvarforth cutting himself and faking his death! This will be as pertinent as Dave Mustaine's political thoughts.

He really does appear to be capitalizing well on this suicidal business. I seem to remember he was also publishing a book not too long ago.

Yes, it was a lyric book, with explanation of their lyrics.

For all his self-destructive manners, he sure is an underachiever.

I can't wait, an entire movie dedicated to how extreme and evil those guys are!

Kvarforth is a hardcore motherfucker. He bangs all the chix when he goes to his suicidal rave parties, and I bet even Nattramn is afraid of him

Going to be a great laff

I could't understand the Swedish, but from what I saw it looked like most of this was about Kvarforth himself. How much is he actually involved in the writing process of Shining's music? Because the band has written some really great stuff. That's what I'm more interested in. Not the character of Kvarforth.

EDIT: Looks like Kvarforth writes all/most of the music. I suppose this will be an interesting documentary.

Absolutely, and it's fucking annoying.

This guy constantly cheapens his grotesquely self-indulgent b(r)and with corny garbage like this. Might as well be touring with Kiss or ICP, too. Can't wait for the Kvarforth figurines with karate chop wrist-cutting action (just you wait).

It amazes me that there's even an audience for guys like this. I mean, how can anyone legitimately depressed/suicidal take it seriously (or as anything short of an insult to their own suffering)?

Blech!

Last year there was an article where Kvarforth was giving a rundown on each song of the new album. In it, he specified the guitarist and bassist as the guys who help write, but most of it is Kvarforth.

Anyway, this is a perfect example of loving the music but disliking the main man. Like Burzum, there's such a detachment that needs to be made between the creator of the music and the music itself.

Yeah. Cutting yourself, snorting coke and drinking alcohol is totally badass. They do alot with their image, and definitely tries to appeal to the suicidal, destructive thoughts of people, but I'm curious, do any depressed and suicidal people actually listen to these guys because of their message? I've never been like that myself, but it just seems to goofy when they do these things.

It troubles me that anyone would need an explanation; I can't speak Swedish, but the lyrics of his in English are pretty simple.

However, I would be interested in this doco. Regardless of the sometimes childish aspect of Shining, I find Kvarforth to be musically talented and somewhat interesting. I'll check it out...

The band recently won some funding and by no means it's a small amount! I guess all the money is being put in for touring and maybe some of it would also go into the production for this.

I'd be more interested in this purely from the musical stand-point...the rest of it seems too meh and childish.

I love when bands talk about how "fucked up" they are, or think some other group of people are "fucked up" because they hold a different set of beliefs, and then make offensive remarks concerning them, accompanied with obscure accusations of sheepishness among the masses and a negative aura for anyone different from them.

Wait... No, I don't. In fact, I hate it even more when adults go around acting like this, like they never made that mental crossover right after puberty. What a joke.

Fuck this guy. Can't stand him or his fake persona. Wish he'd do one real thing and kill himself already. But then he'd become "the greatest ever" since all dead people automatically become better than they were in life.

Iv been suicidal even committed it, i'm pretty much over it now but i have to say if i ever want to listen to metal that would relate to my feelings back then (or on the rear occasion these days) i don't listen to shining ,that goose comes across a fake show pony and the music doesn't give off a melancholic feel to me anyway.

He'd not kill himself. He stated many times that he doesn't want to, but want others ("the weak people") to suffer and end their lives.

His fake persona is actually what I like about the guy. It's an artificial character he's been playing for a long time.
He definitely knows how to piss people of and be hated.

To be quite honest though, since the release of their latest album (with the drugs and rockstar-images) it got kind of ridiculous even for me. But then again, sice that pissed me off too, he at least he managed to get some more people dislike things he does. He's doing all this stuff on purpose and obviously it's working.

^ Shining is not even remotely homosexual.

It is so god damn hetero, it's disgusting. In fact, Shining could benefit a lot from toning down the post-adolescent, sheltered suburbanite machismo thing.
They could use a dose of camp, as opposed to this routine of painfully embarrassing, fake, sheltered-guy, "if it seems edgy to me, it must be edgy to EVERYONE!" shock tactics.

Whoa... COCAINE?! I'm uncomfortable, dewd! Try crack, bitch.
Scratching yourself with knives?!!! Mild self-mutilation! Very disturbing! I've not seen a thousand high school-age girls do THAT before!
Pretending to shoot heroin for a music video?! Impressive! I've never known people who died from the real thing!

Shining is the ICP of Swedish hillbillies, white trash and suburban teenagers.

His behaviour is what puts me off ever listening to the music and I've never really spoken to anyone else with depression (diagnosed-wise) or suicidal being a fan of him or Shining. I remember I joined a forum to help people with depression and he wasn't liked around there either as the general opinion was he gives a negative stereotypical image of what people think of people with depression.

Pelle Dead would never do such a thing like this, he just killed himself

Which leads me to say that I have never found Shinings music to feel depressed or anything. It sounds forced...
Morbids music is almost "upbeat" and energetic however there's always that eerie atmosphere to it

I've been diagnosed, I enjoy Shining's music, minus the unfitting and sometimes unnecessary movie sound bytes they seem to love. I agree that the music is not really that depressive and I'm sure I'd hate the lyrics if I could understand Swedish. But the music is pretty good if you take it on it's own and separate the douchebag from the music.

I agree with them about Kvarforth as a person (or rather Kvarforth the character). His antics are cringe worthy at best, and he's doing what every psychiatrist will tell you not to do, let your disease control you and define you. Whether or not he's actually ill and/or how severe it actually is, is up for debate.

Doubtless it isn't severe, if there's anything at all. He's in a band that continuously releases albums, and the band is centered around him with the others acting supporting roles (take that both musically and imagery wise). A musician with crippling depression would most likely find it extremely challenging to find others willing to work with them, let alone to be able to handle all the management, decision-making and business that controlling a band of such popularity intrinsically requires. It's a character, and his affected self-loathing is merely a way to completely override the need for healthy self-irony that any genuine personality would have.

He doesn't suffer from clinical depression he is Bipolar, and he is now heavily medicated. He is on olanzapine among other drugs. That's why he has gained such a big amount of weight. From the skeleton he was in the halmstad-days to fat guy he is now.

... Depressed people can be extremely creative, I think that is pretty well known in the music-scene. And after he got medicated there seems to be a lot more on his plate, so the medication seems to help a great amount.

And who else is Bipolar? Devin Townsend, and you can't exactly say that he is crippled by his symptoms either.

Yeah, the sound bytes initially kinda put me off the band. The very first song I heard by Shining was Låt Oss Ta Allt Från Varandra from Halmstad, and for the first half I was really enjoying it. Very black 'n' roll headbanger with good vocals and whatnot. Then the piano break came in, and we hear the samples of Christina Ricci from Prozac Nation, and the very first thing that popped into my head was "Seriously?", before I started laughing. It took me a while to listen to the rest of Halmstad because of it, but I'm glad I did since I love the whole album.

Lol same here. Personally I think the only clip(s) that seems to fit the music, is the samples used on Total utfrysning from the Klagopsalmer album.

Those clips are certainly annoying. The song Subrick mentioned is a prime of example of pulling a handbrake on a song and throwing in something that takes me out of the song. There's enough melodrama to go around with Shining's music, so no need to add girls crying or guys whining in the middle of them.

The American Psycho one was the only one I found fitting.
