This is an absolutely stunning album. I'll admit I love roman history...but this is beyond just symphonic death metal. This is like a full-on movie.

I love both of their albums as well. It's hard trying to find other symphonic death bands that sound like them.

Brilliant album, epic and heavy as fuck, excellent compositions, awesome arrangements and even the cover is great. Moreover, I saw the band two months ago and they kicked every fucking ass.

I'm playing "Romulus" now! Love it! Will check out "Caligvla" next.

The album is okay, but the guitar work is boring as fuck.
There's gotta be better Death Metal bands surrounding the Roman theme. I'm sure searching that up here will bring decent results.

Try Asterium.

But Ex Deo is good stuff really. I actually like the guitar work. It plods some but that's welcome for me.

Okay song, but that production...it's like they're trying to out-do black metal as a whole. Yikes.

Try Ade. A bit like Nile, but focused on ancient Rome.

After I read his post, I immediately looked to see if any other posts mentioned Ade. I give them a second. While they're debut is pretty good, for me at least, it wasn't stand out. But the single I heard from their upcoming album.... I really want to hear the album.

Edit: After a quick search it seems the album has already been out for a month.... Well, I know what I'm doing right now!

I actually know of these guys, but didn't know they centered around Rome. That kinda explains a lot. First album was okay, and, like the poster above me, didn't know they had a second album out yet. Worth checking out for sure.

That production REALLY hurts them. They got potential though possibly.

The song is good but the production is very very weak. But the main problem is that I dont see the "roman atmosphere" anywhere, it sounds like a (well done) death metal but nothing more.

I have to check the other mentioned band.

I like the whole concept of Ex Deo that pretty much is the heavy metal's answer to "Spartacus" (tv series).
Mauricio sure knows where his roots lies in eh?
