Just thought a thread sharing old black metal music videos that look like they were filmed by some teenage kid would be fun to make, anyway I'll throw up the first one.

I'm not sure if we do this here but... nobody mentioned Immortal's Call Of The Wintermoon video?!?

That Darkthrone video is fan made and doesn't count.

Arckanum's Gava fran Trulen would probably qualify, although, to be honest, I'm pretty fond of it. It represents the atmosphere of the music quite well. Also, when you consider it's a 100% self-made effort from an artist who still had to record his debut album (the version of the song used for the video is from the Trulen demo), you've got to admit the effort involved is admirable.

Co Dobré Pro Mne, Dobrým Jest (Maniac Butcher) and Kyy (Azaghal) are two more recent examples that recapture that feeling remakably well.

We must never forget Hecate Enthroned's video for "An ode to a haunted wood". A classic of "how not to".

Yep I went back and checked and it turns out it was compiled from interview footage so allow me to put up a real darkthrone video.
Here's the one for Too old too cold.

This video is extremely bad. It's not that old, but it's been done in the same spirit as Immortal's Call of the Wintermoon video:

Ya but that doesn't count. It's an obvious parody.

Okay, that might top Call of the Wintermoon. I couldn't even finish watching that.

There was a video on Youtube (long forgot the name) where the kid is riding his bike in the forest or something like that. Apparently the comments were so bad that the kid deleted them all.

For fuck sake. I don't understand why any band needs to make a video in the first place, I can scarcely think of a metal video I've seen that isn't embarrassing (for the band, and for the viewer). But what the fuck were these idiots thinking with this?! That the "movie magic" would happen in post production? Where the fuck were the label? Or was it them who funded the borrowing of the shitty handicam (or toaster or potato that this was filmed on).

Let hilarity ensue!

Title translation: Darkchurchtax - Go Live Yourself!

Well, obviously a joke. But more subtle than the usual crappy parodies.

It ain't hard to make a good music video. It just seems to be for a lot of metal bands...

Pity when the music is good but the video is terrible, I don't know why the bands go "aw yeah, we'll put this out" when they see the final product. Fucking hire a film student. They'll probably do it for free.

Just like with rap, I often times nowadays have trouble discerning which black metal songs are parodies, and which are not.

Maybe black metal videos were meant to be shitty.

Some gems:

Lucifugum

The guy who founded the band (?) yet plays no instrument spends the whole video drawing wolves and shit. Brilliant.

Trolltech

Tree Hugging ist krieg. The song itself is actually pretty cool.

Ancient

I don't even know.

I definitely think a good black metal video can be done. The problem is that the line between cheese and brilliance gets pretty thin. For example Dark Funeral's video "Secrets of The Black Arts" is well done because it's simple and the shitty quality adds character. I think at this point though its safe to say that black metal videos shouldn't be shot outside in daylight (see Hecate Enthroned).
