I love to hear what they're doing with a concept album, but that cover and the font they use for the album name... It doesn't bode well. Still, these guys know what they're doing, and I'll just put Breeding the Spawn on again if it doesn't work out.

Suffocation have never made a genuinely crap record, so I'm sure that this one will be perfectly alright in the music department. Plus it'll be great to hear Dave Culross on a full length Suffocation disc at last.

Track listing for the album:

http://www.blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?m ... mID=183281

Nice to see that they continue the tradition to have a re-recording of a song from Breeding the Spawn at the end.

What do people feel about the rerecordings of the old Breeding the Spawn tracks? I personally like the old versions just fine, and while the rerecorded versions sounds good enough, I don't think they add anything to the originals.

Song titles seem cool, which is great. But - 'My Demise'? Not very Suffocationy, is it?

I agree. But I seem to recall reading somewhere that the band felt so screwed over with the final mix and production, and that it didn't give the tracks justice. But why not rerecord the whole thing in one go then?
In the end it doesn't matter to me, and I don't think I would buy a rerecording of the full album (unless I had ridiculous amounts of cash to spend) since Breeding the Spawn isn't as shoddy as people generally would have it.

Ive got that "fan made" remaster, though I like the rerecordings better, especially Breeding the Spawn. What I dont get is why they put those "rough unmixed" versions on Blood Oath. I dont hear any difference.

Breeding the Spawn sounds great. Tons better than any of their post-reunion albums. Of their albums, perhaps only the Human Waste EP has a better and more fitting sound and production than Breeding the Spawn. Then again, I like my death metal raw and rough rather than glossy and shiny.

Yeah, I love the sound of Breeding the Spawn. I see it as a 'twisted' more than 'brutal' album, if that makes sense, and the production fits perfectly.

Yeah I think Breeding the Spawn sounds fine (though it certainly helps that it's one of their best albums), but I understand that they were never happy with how it turned out, so it's been a cool little tradition to keep giving us a rerecorded track from it with each new album.

Someone link him to Ozzy's post :D

The titles are very suffocation-ish. Quite interested to see how 'cycles of suffering' sounds like.

Well, there will always be haters and naysayers but I think Suffocation will pull it off no matter what they place on the table.

So is "large menacing figure in front of a bleak urban setting" the next big thing for death metal album covers?

Yeah man, that computer generated artwork looks so malevolent and brutal/sarcasm. Looks like shit compared to effigy of the forgotten. I don't like it at all.

Beginning of Sorrow is such a killer track, no doubt it will be the highlight of the album.

That artwork is going to look very dated in 5-10 years, but I don't mind it.

I hate the title though. Pinnacle of Bedlam? Sounds like someone wanting to sound scholarly but coming across as terribly effete.

Hmm, sounds ok. I don't actually know about it right now. I'll give it a few more listens but it isn't instantly grasping me. Are Frank's vocals a bit... I don't even know. Something seems a bit off, not sure what it is though. Hopefully this will grow on me.

Generally, this extraordinarily fast paced, even somewhat thrashy style of death metal is among my favorite styles, and I think speeding up their overall sound and becoming a bit more "traditional" in a sense worked extremely well for both Cannibal Corpse and Dying Fetus this year. But this... just doesn't really sound like a Suffocation song. Don't get me wrong, I really like it and if the whole album is like this I'll surely listen to it a ton when it drops. I have really mixed feelings about it. Like Frank's vocals sound like they're processed or put through a filter of some sort, but at the same time they're still better than than the self titled, which was the nadir of his career vocalwise. And the style is different ("Reincrimation" is the latest song off the top of my head that sounds like it), which I really like, but the lack of their signature brand of breakdowns and the bland, interchangeable album cover make me feel like Suffo might be losing their identity.

tl;dr - The song is awesome, and if it'd indicative of the album as a whole, I'll surely really enjoy it, but it doesn't really feel like Suffocation anymore.

Kinda agree with the Bastard. The song is indeed faster, but it also doesn't feel like Suffo. Still a sweet song. :headbang:

I'll probably get it anyways since Suffocation is my favorite US Death Metal band.

Gotta agree. The first half of the song almost sounds like a death metal cover of Exodus's "Scar Spangled Banner." I still dig it, but this is something I'd expect out of a side project of a Suffo member, not Suffocation itself. Just seems weird. The song starts to sound like something out of Blood Oath at 1:20 which makes me think this will be thrashy death metal+elements of Blood Oath.

The song itself is fucking great. The faster riff reminds me of some of the more rapidfire moments of Despise the Sun, but the production is horrendous like your average awful shit tech death band. I've got mixed feelings but the song is solid, the recording just sounds way overdone

I think it sounds like Suffocation, just faster than usual. Frank sounds like Frank, so I'm not sure what you guys are hearing.

Also, the production is the best they've had since Despise the Sun.

I liked it, but I agree with everyone that it really did not feel like Suffocation, least of all did it have any kind of good production sound. I'll just be over here admiring Effigy's practically perfect production sound.
