That freaking Doors cover at the end of Tales from the Thousand Lakes. Boy does that spoil the album.

You know why it is at the end? Because it isn't supposed to be there. The original release doesn't have it. As was pointed out though, it's a rather middling album. Black Winter Day is alright - It was a sort of an anthem for young, up and coming metalheads in the late 90s and early 00s. The only early song that they kept in their playlist and the only they did that had growled vocals as done by Koskela. So it is rather nostalgic. But really, Amorphis's high points were Elegy and Privilege of Evil. Or, you know, Vulgar Necrolatry/Abhorrence.

As usual, MacMoney's on the money. :P

I really like Elegy myself. Tales was just a stepping stone on the way to that one, and yes, it has some inadvisable moments. My friend and I used to laugh at the incredibly gay-sounding spoken part in "To Father's Cabin" ("ooold ooold man.......bring me...a tiny cloud..." or whatever.)

Lugubrum's 'wtf" moments are basically numberless from De Totem onward. Sometimes I think they're going out of their way to annoy people. SOmehow it comes back around to being awesome, and just contributes to me laughign and loving the band more. Everything from the drunken banjo playing, whooping and sucking noises on De Totem, to the slovenly blues jam and shit-taking noises on Brine Truin, the intro/outro of De Vette Cuicken which sounds a complete parody (or maybe rape and murder) of a piano piece by Eric Satie, the thumb pianos and incomprehensible Congalese monologue on Albino de Congo, etc, etc.

The Amazon.com sample for Elegy aren't doing anything for me but maybe I just need to full on sit down and listen to it.

WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW

is the first thing you'll hear on the song Contractor by Lamb of God. Off the album Wrath.

I think The_Boss said it best in his review of the single.

The beginning of Sinister's Sacramental Carnage, "Alex, fuck you!"
Dying Fetus' cover of Scum. To this day I can't listen to a Dying Fetus song without expecting an Ice Cube cameo at the end.

Nattefrost - Preteen Deathfuck

I wasn't expecting screeching feedback that fucking loud. Literally had to turn the volume down.

Dinsadansdjeveldyrkaar!!! too, because of Nattefrost's completely random and out of place Kermit-esque vocals.

I think Nattefrost might be the champion of WTF.

When I read the topic title Taake's 'Over Bjoergvin Graater Himmerik 3' *BOING* sound popped in my mind. I couldn't help but laugh when I heard the song for the first time, it was really unexpected.

HAHAHA! I had this exact experience years ago. Too funny. I know its an old folk instrument but it is basically a cartoon sound effect.

Any songs with Jew's Harp in them sit on a razors edge. It can either work, and generate an epic pagan atmosphere, or not work, and generate the image of one single kangaroo bouncing across the music.

I always found Blaze Bailey's "Yeah"s on "Judgement of Heaven" to be kinda WTF. It's like they cut out the part where he says "I'm in Iron Maiden! Yeah! Yeah yeah!!"

Not sure if somebody has mentioned it yet, but Annihilator's Chicken and Corn was a big pretty funny jump from Hunter Killer (or whatever is last on Carnival Diablos), seeing as Jeff Waters wrote it for his son when he was little :P

That moment when you're listening to Therion's latest album for the first time, not knowing what it's about, and you realize that it's all covers from old French songs. Pretty weird, although the album is good.

Also Kraf Dinner, Brain Dance, the nursery rhyme at the end of The Nightmare Factory, the intro to Refresh The Demon, the weird closing segment of Something Witchy. Yeah, Jeff Waters is a fascinating character...

I remembered this thread and I just heard this song so I had to post this

The electronic beat interlude in the middle of the song "To Lay Like Old Ashes" by Austere is definitely a HUGE wtf moment for black metal, not gonna lie that was freaking weird but it was catchy and worked.

I dunno, with flowery and happy riffs like that, I wouldn't have been surprised. I would've expected an emotive female clean voice to come up next to sing about autumn leaves and sadness, with half morose, half cheerful melodies.

It's like this song. It's quite strange from the start, so you aren't even surprised when a tango interlude comes, or the quasi-techno bridge before the wah wah solo and all that.

The biggest WTF moment for me was when I listened to Nespithe by Demilich for the first time. Antti Bomans vocals tripped me the fuck out. They were unlike anything i've ever heard before.

In Flames In Live We Trust, just before 'The Quiet Place' Anders says something along the lines of "I need to tie my shoe, I tied my shoe"..

Speaking of them, the disco break from 'Sunset Song' off Imaginary Soniscape was another one, even by sigh's standards. Disco Just never occured to me as something to mix with any other genre, much less metal.

The porno sample at 1:29 on Thyrfing “Moment in Valhalla” feels both funny and odd.
