I think the mother of all "WTF moments" is the beginning of Bathory's "Pace Till Death."

This.

Also, when Venom's "Teacher's Pet" subsides into a chant of "Get yer' tits out for the lads"... Always one I relish putting on when I'm the one who's commandeered the music at parties.

Nightwish's Dark Passion Play had a few WTF Moments. They were called "Bye Bye Beautiful" and "Master Passion Greed."

Worst pop single ever AND worst attempt at heaviness ever? In one album? You so silly, Tuomas.

Heavenly, Riding Through Hell off of Coming from the Sky. That scream at 2:53 is gut-bustingly hilarious. I seriously want to know who green-lighted that.

The ending of Lifelover's Nackskott, where the sample of a little swedish girl singing some kiddie song comes in. I know it's supposed to be ironic or whatever but goddamn

Venom's "Teacher's Pet" would be a WTF in relation to the other songs on Black Metal given that the cod-Satanism of Black Metal is replaced with sex jokes and innuendo.

"Fairies Wear Boots" on Paranoid as well, especially when Ozzy says, "I looked through a window surprised when I saw, a fairy with boots right dancing with a dwarf".

I forget what it's called, but there is a song on Avantasia's The Scarecrow that sounds exactly like a damn Celine Dion song. And I'm not even exaggerating.

Post subject:  Re: WTF moments on albums

I've had plenty of those moments, a example is Mikael Åkerfeldt's creepy laughing at the end of "Burden" by Opeth. Another is the stupid as fuck "Uhh! Uhh! Uhh! Uhh! Uhh!" as the very first thing you hear on the beginning of the first song on Gorgoroth's album Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt. And last but not least, the totally out of place Seinfeld-esque bass solo during the After the Burial song "The Fractal Effect" just made my head spin.

Oh and PS: good job on hearing the new Parkway Drive album. I heard some of it and it's amazing, but they will never surpass their first two records sadly.

I think that surprise rap verse by ice T on six feet under's one bullet left counts as one of the stranger moments in death metal.

A big one (which is pretty much half the song) would be "So Numb, So Dead" by I'm in a Coffin where their vocalist is heard literally crying. You could hear it here » http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaGN2QiDGwI

It's pretty much the stupidest thing I've ever heard in all of depressive black metal.

Benighted always throws in at least WTF moment in every album. A lot of people might think it's not very metal to throw in random rapping, scratching, and jazzy acoustic whatever interludes, but it's funny and unexpected.

Sex-Addicted (Jazzy acoustic part at 2:52)

Grind Wit (French rapping at 2:30)

That part in Somewhere Far Beyond where it goes into that jovial Irish folk sounding section. I'm not sure why they put that in there.

It wasn't my CD, but at the end of one Anthrax album there's a hidden song "Friggin' in the Riggin'". This one actually:

It's just kind of weird to hear this after you think the album is finished.

That reminds me of hearing "The Man Land" which is a joke song by Between the Buried and Me placed as a hidden track at the end of their The Silent Circus album. I remember being confused as shit when hearing that the first time but then laughing my ass off by the time half of it was over.

I love that I'm listening to "Journey to the End" off of 1184 by Windir as I read this thread. The whole second half of this song is WTF. You get a great earthy black/folk album and then you take off throughout the galaxy.

My favorite WTF song moment is obscure. Bastel were a hard rock band from the 80s that released a typical 2-track single. The only song to be found online is "The Black Forest". It's a great song, but goddamn the vocalist is hilarious to listen to. Just listen to it and try to get through the first minute without laughing out loud. Even he can't! And he does it again right around the solo. If anyone has this old 7", for the love of all that is 80s, get "Baby" online. If the A-side is any indication, the B-side must be hilarious too. Though looking at the title, it's likely a power ballad.

The mellow part at the end of Atheist' Mother Man threw me off big time when I first heard it.

It's already been mentioned, but definitely the Seinfeld breakdown in that one After the Burial song.

I was gonna say the song "Illusion of Power". I mean, Ice-T rapping to Black Sabbath in their shittiest time period ever? That's priceless.

It's made even worse by the fact that the riff playing under that is incredibly badass. The banjo in Myr is cool though.

Myr. And its just a banjo solo. And it kicks ass but its pretty out of place

There was a Benighted song that had some weird rap breakdown that took me by surprise.

The last song on Big Fat Box of Shit by Crotchduster threw me off which is hard to do with them but John Tardy doing guest vocals to say some asinine lines about having sex with Jessica Rabbit kills me every time.

Nile's album Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka has a song called Ramses Bringer of War that throws me off because it sounds like World 8's music in Mario 3

I remember posting some topic like this a while back... always kind of entertaining...

The entire second half of Tormentor's Recipe Ferrum is a gigantic "what the fuck!!!!" I can't even begin to describe, for those who haven't heard. Atilla making a lot of weird noises, spontaneous rock 'n' roll jams, bubbly swamp sounds, saxophones, Hungarian singalongs...it's just madness. I...kind of appreciate it though, sometimes.

Even Anno Domini has a couple of strange moments. The one that springs to mind immediately is the song that starts out with a really lazy blues jam, and then just throws itself abruptly into the usual thrashing, as though the band suddenly realised someone had hit the "record" button. The clean guitar bit in "Beyond" is a little odd too, come to think of it...

That part in 'Sterile Nails and Thunderbowels' (Silencer) when Nattramn yells the title of the song, followed by, 'Oh, yeah!' It's so fucking stupid. Also, why is the song called 'Sterile Nails and Thunderbowels'? Jesus.

I like the title of the song well enough, but silencer always seemed like a bad attempt to do what Bethlehem had alreadyd one years before...

There's a moment in Mastodon's song Megalodon (off the Leviathan album) where the heavy riffing and shouted vocals are suddenly interrupted by a very random bluegrass passage, to then brake into an even heavier thrashing barrage. It's weird and out of place, but I like it.

I sort of agree with you here, aside from the part about liking the song title. I mean, I think Silencer is ok, but Bethlehem really mastered the whole depressive/suicidal thing before it even started.
