I guess Poland is the only thing not torn by this issue. Isn't Nergal just a character? They should just arrest the Nergal character and let Darski go. It was all for show anyway and he was under the stage name. It makes as much sense as trying to take legal action against somebody who just tore a book

Yeah, Nergal's a stage name, but the Polish Supreme Court might be having difficulty distinguishing between Darski and Nergal. There's not really much point in arresting someone for something that their pseudonym did.

Polish authorities should just relax. It's just a book you idiots. Anyone being upset by such actions does not have strong enough faith in their beliefs - this is the reaction of insecure people.

I think this is absolutely disgusting, but not really surprising. Poland is a very strict catholic country and the religion tends to control the government from what I've heard.

Hope he does get off. It would be disgusting if he went to prison over this.

It's not that simple because Poland doesn't have blasphemy laws. Hello, metal shows are held there, this should be obvious. Instead, it's possible for two or more persons to sue for "offense to religious sentiment" (think UK libel laws). The only other requirement is that your denomination is recognized by the state.

The real reason this case went to supreme court is that the supposed offense occurred at a ticketed event which the plaintiffs did not attend. As such it's opened a new can of worms for freedom of speech legislation.
