Maybe it's a little too soon to talk about it, but looks like they're already recording it, with no other than Rick Rubin.

BLACK SABBATH are in the studio right now with [producer] Rick Rubin recording. And they are going to be touring here in the spring of next year. Definitely.

As for how Rubin influenced the band's approach to writing together again:

I dunno. I have faith on Tony's riffing, but Ozzy is another story. Also, the whole shitstorm with Bill makes this a bittersweet situation.

Rick Rubin is enough to ensure it won't be particularly impressive. Osbourne will take care of the rest.

The matter for me is not their album, but does this open up the possibility of a new tour? :O

Fucking Sharon said they'll be touring next year and Ozzy said the album might well be unleashed too in 2013.

Any way you look at it, with Ozzy at the helm it's bound to be pure unadulterated shite. The only way Sabbath will make a good album is if Ozzy keeps his mouth shut for the entirety. Just listen to "Scream"... he doesn't shut up for the entire song. I don't think he has the restraint anymore to do something like "War Pigs" again. He'll just slur and stutter into the microphone and the digital editor will do the rest!

I trust everyone's musicianship save for Ozzy's. The man's voice is completely ruined (though he was never a prodigy to begin with), though I count with Tony and Ward to bring great riffs and cool bass lines to the table. As for what the OP said regarding the Bill Ward situation..... Yeah, that will probably cause some trouble.

So is Clufetos still doing the drumming? I am concerned about Ozzy's vocals and have rather distrustful of Rick Rubin's production techniques, but I still have a lot of Tony and Geezer's writing abilities. As long as they work with more riff-driven material, then there shouldn't be too many issues with it. Still waiting for them to try their luck with Glenn Hughes or Rob Halford though...

I'll judge when I hear the music. That does sound intriguing though, so I hope the band is capable of going back to 1969 in their souls.

I will buy this album and use a program to edit Ozzy's vocals out, leaving me with an awesome instrumental Sabbath record.

A new Sabbath album with the original lineup. Hell yes! I'll be looking forward to this.

^How the hell has MA been around for ten years without anybody taking the name Holy Diver?

As far as the album goes, The Devil You Know showed that Tonny still has plenty of riffs left in him, but as we all know, Ozzy is horrid these days and will likely ruin the album. Tony Martin reunion please!!

Haha, this.

The only bittersweet thing about this album for me is that I'd so rather Heaven & Hell were still active, but... *uncontrollably sobs*

Still, I'm willing to give Ozzy a chance with this record. It sounds like their minds are set on reigniting the old Sabbath flame, and I'm excited to hear what it sounds like, and way more excited with the prospect of them touring. Sure, Ozzy doesn't sound particularly good these days, but let's wait until a new song is released before we start writing him off.

In my ideal world a few things happen regarding a new Sabbath album:
1) Instead of Rubin playing them the self-titled, he plays "Sabotage"
2) Bill Ward drums, and does a good bit of singing (ala "Burn" era Purple)
3) Wino sings lead.

THAT is an album I would love to hear.

That's about as Black Sabbath as The Mezmerist. Overall, this project is odd. The Heaven and Hell project was fantastic easily one of the best records of the past few years by an old school band. Rubin does have a habit of polishing a bands sound, which in the case of Sabbath may not be a bad thing. Shame Wardy won't be on the record, but I think this record could be good.

Wino is a terrible vocalist, just as bad as Ozzy is in his current incarnation. I don't have terribly high hopes for this and to echo the sentiments here, there may be some good riffs from Iommi but the album will probably sink. Its truly a shame that all of them including Geezer and Iommi feel the need to bring down the bands legacy by writing with Ozzy.

Rubin's gonna have to autotune the fuck out of Ozzy...

that'd honestly be pretty funny if the whole album had is vocals autotuned, especially if they went out of their way to be totally unsubtle about it.

I dreaded that this day would come. I tried to convince myself that it wouldn't but.... I agree with everything Veracs just said.

In Iommi I trust, but if Ozzy has even more than 20% input I'm worried. Also, I really, REALLY hope they go for the doom approach like on The Devil you Know.

Hasn't he more or less been autotuned since Black Rain?

Also, Wino is fucking awesome.
