Does anyone know where to get deals like CM's 10 disc grab bag? I was just looking around and noticed those and was wondering if any other sites/distros/sellers do that kind of thing with positive reviews?

Relapse did it many years ago. It came our pretty good. I think I ordered 2 lots so out of 20 cds i got 6 of them were noise from their resound that I wasn't all about and another 4 of them were either things I had copies of (unsane, Morgion) or shit I never wanted (nightstick, bongzilla)

so I would say give it a shot cause hell I was still able to sell off what I didn't want and it all came out cheaper than buying individually.

And they came with the awful saw marks, I imagine?

That's the reason why I never do grab bags. Sure it's fun to be surprised, but the CM/Nuclear Blast grab bags are $25 plus shipping, right? I wouldn't pay over $25 for that stack of shit. The only CD I'd want that I don't already have is that Mantic Ritual. I'd rather spend the money on two CDs I know I'm going to dig.

Yeah, I got the Nuclear Blast one. Huge waste of money. Of the Ten CD's I got, I only kept one of them, that being Candlemass' king of the grey islands. Don't do it man.

That's rather unfortunate. haha.

And on another note, I have that Ishtar album...its one I haven't thought about in awhile...I might have to dig my CD out for it! I remember it being pretty good.

Back to the topic at hand, I never did one of those grab bags, because I had this gut feeling that I would get a bunch of turds that they have a hard time selling, or whatever the case may be. This thread confirms my fear. lol

The thing is, I'd assume they mainly just throw shit that doesn't sell in there, stuff they are trying to get rid of, or bands they are really trying to market, thereby scooping out the awesome stuff in the middle.

But hey, sometimes you might get lucky. It is a gamble.

Having worked at a label who did grab bags at one time (and stopped because it wasn't very often people were happy. I don't blame them), its always stuff that 1) can't sell; 2) they're manufacturing a new round of that particular release and need to get rid of the old stock; 3) copies that were delegated as "promo", but the release ended up tanking, so now they have 10 boxes sitting in the back room collecting dust because no one even wants a promo copy of it; and 4), if you're really lucky and the label isn't "cheap", one (or maybe two) relatively decent release(s).

Myself personally? I'd only order one from a handful of labels, all but one being run out of someone's bedroom, so its never going to happen.

yeah it was pretty good... it was the best thing i got in the order

out of the grab bag itself i would say the lockup and mantic ritual cds were the best... the rest ranged from "ok" to "please shut it off and set the disc on fire"... i gave every disc in the pile a chance and the only one i couldn't stand to listen to even one complete song was the sonic syndicate cd
