Neurosis officially revealed the name of their new album released at the end of October. All they've released so far for this album is 30 second sound clips of ambient stuff on youtube. I'm so excited for this release. I'll definitely get it on vinyl.

their last album was their most metallic in years. Curious what the new album will bring. Based on the samples i expect a lot more ambient sounding album.

Been waiting for this forever, glad the've revealed when they will release it. They've got 9 albums so far (10 if you count the one with Jarboe) and the only one I don't love is the second one where they where making the awkward transition between raw punk and the style they're known for. The ambient samples sound really cool, I have a feeling this is going to be one of their best, not like Neurosis ever lets it's fans down. These guys are definitely one of my top 5 metal bands of all time. They always take on a new vibe every album, so I'm wondering what this one will sound like.

This will be awesome, there's no doubt about that. They haven't made a bad album since they started playing their signature sound.

That was weird...I first read that as "New Neurosis Album Found In Decay", and I thought you meant that the master tapes of some long-forgotten Neurosis recordings had been discovered in an advanced state of decomposition.

But, this sounds like a promising release.

Finally!

Hopefully the wait is worth it, although I find it difficult to believe it won't be.

Why don't I own any Neurosis albums? I may have to look into this one.

Good question, as they are one of the best bands ever.

It's funny, I LOVED "Given to the Rising" but hadn't listend to it in over a year, until I dug it out today and listened to it in it's entirity. Then I found out about this. "Given to the Rising" is a brilliant record. Not one weak track on there. Their other albums usually have a couple less-than-memorable tracks but all their stuff is, by and large, good to excellent (well except for their very early stuff) REALLY interested in what the next one will be like- I gotta have it that's all I know!!

I haven't really listened to Neurosis since A sun that never sets... but I think it's really time I need to get back to them with this release and pick up their last few.

Been a Neurosis fan ever since I first heard "Souls at Zero" probably around 1994 or so. A friend's older brother was a huge Neurosis fan back then and I loved it. Got the chance to see them sometime around 1999 or 2000 in Pittsburgh.

Awesome! If I had to choose one all time favorite band, Neurosis would probably be it (I got a Neurosis shirt in the mail a few days ago, and I've been wearing it ever since...now it reeks of sweat, weed, and cigarettes, which I guess is kinda fitting).

Neurosis was one of my favorites during junior high, which was right around "Through Silver" and "Times of Grace". I actually have four Neurosis shirts (Times of Grace, Souls at Zero, Sovereign, Enemy of the Sun) that stay in heavy rotation with the rest of them. I haven't been the biggest fan in past years (actually since Sovereign) but I usually try to get each of their releases.

Yeah, how freaking long has it been? Five years since their last full length? I guess everyone has been too busy with their ambient and folk side projects...

It was just announced and you already want a leak???

I'm quite intrigued as to what direction will be displayed on this new album, I honestly have no idea where the band may go given all the past repertoire.

Mainly Given To The Rising stuff with a splash of Times Of Grace and A Sun That Never Sets.

i'm pretty keen to check it out, is there much crowd noise?
the songs are cohesive? neurosis albums seem to 'blend' into one great big long song right?

it's funny, when i put one of my two albums on here i try to do it when i'm not busy so i can sort of concentrate ha ha

I for one would like to see them go back to a more tribal, sludge base, like TSOB. Given the members' output, with folk and ambient releases and whatnot, I doubt that it's not gonna happen. I imagine it'll be a mix of Given to the Rising with more folksy accoutrements.

Well, as much as I'd like that as well the thing is that they've crossed over that line long ago. I'm a sucker for everything from SAZ onwards but I don't believe that they'll return to that kind of sound. Unless they reinvent themselves and decide to make a record that displays a bit of everything they've done instead of evolving further into whatever it is one can play after all they have played.

I'd love to hear some experimentation like SAZ and EOTS again. Songs like Web, A Chronology For Survival, Lost or Raze The Stray still send chills down my spine every time!

You know, honestly, I've tried. I've tried listening to Neurosis. Hell, I own both The Eye Of Every Storm and Through Silver In Blood. But I just don't like this band. I don't hear the experimentation everyone raves about. There are occasionally interesting moments but for the most part, it's just painfully boring, slow, dull, and trying-way-too-hard-to-be-emotional metal of a nondescript variety.

And yet, this band is beloved by most metalheads I know, both IRL and online. What is it about this band that makes everyone's panties moist? I've tried reading the reviews, but I'm not even sure I'm listening to the same albums they are. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. Someone, please show me how to do Neurosis right so I can stop feeling like such a loser!

Well it's a pretty sure bet that'll happen. Even with them experimenting and building a more atmospheric base within the past decade or so, they still have a sound that is decidedly all their own.
