That actually fits, Cave Growl is pretty shitty.

Anyways, for me, I guess it would have to be Dalriada. No specific reason, but it always had a very Connected-with-the-seasons type of tone, especially Arany-Ablum, Igeret and Szelek. If I want like Autumn nature, I would go with Eternal Autumn Solitude by Nocturnal Procession

Funny. I thought black metal was more... you know... pink.
...ähem... grey always seemed a fitting color for death metal to me, with red being somewhat associated with life. But maybe gray is better for grindcore because it is about grinding in a grey society or something like that. You run out of colors so quickly if you do this sort of thing. :|

Probably too obvious, but The Botanist works for me... I: The Suicide Tree / II: A Rose From the Dead.

Nature is one of the most common themes in metal. Most black metal and folk metal is connected with nature, it's in their philosophy. Ulver's Bergtatt for example tells the tale of a human lady going into a forest and being attacked. Well that's classic man (woman actually) vs. nature.

Carrying on the traditions of black metal classics, the 2000s decade has seen a number of albums directly addressing nature. Drudkh's Autumn Aurora is a metalhead favorite, with badass song titles like "Wind of the Night Forests" and "The First Snow". Nightwish has dedicated songs to the ocean.

A more common approach is the human condition reflected in nature. Agalloch has used "bloodbirds" and "death of the earth" to express how the character feels inside. Isis's Oceanic sees the main character's pain drowned in the ocean.

Didn't know why but Falkenbach. I've found something great in his music and it's really nature-related.

Il Était une Forêt... by Gris has a very fresh, organic sound, and combine it with depressive guitars with occasional acoustic passages and the howled vocals it makes me feel like I'm walking through a meadow at sunset. A depressing meadow.

I have to agree with the Lustre mentions. It creates a perfect atmosphere but it feels very airy, as if you're floating through space. Another band that creates a similar atmosphere is Midnight Odyssey. Sometimes it feels in tune with the earthy landscape of grass and trees, while at other times you feel like you're drifting through space, exploring the cosmos and trying to unravel the mysteries of the universe. I recommend listening to their debut album during winter at sunrise or subset. And I mean all of it, it's a rewarding listen.

Skagos. Just look at the album cover and listen to the lyrics. It's all about nature.

No mention of Taake yet? The third album "Doedskvad" brings me to Scandinavian land every time I listen to it.

Black Lotus, from Western Canada. From their art, to their lyrics, to their music, it's all nature themed and it comes through huge on their album Harvest of Seasons. Music for a walk in the woods.

Tenhi, as mentioned, also Hexvessel is pretty much a perfect choice.
The second album by A Storm of Light, Forgive Us Our Trespasses, has some awesome sections as well.

Obsequiae's "Suspended in the Brume of Eos" has a really cool medieval, almost folkish vibe that really evokes a feeling of being in nature for me.

You know what? The one band that really makes me feel like I'm connecting with the environment is Explosions In The Sky. All Of The Sudden I Miss Everyone is possibly the best album EVER to listen to when it's snowing out, and you're out walking. Especially when it's a nice, slow fall, and the flakes are huge. Makes you feel as if you're part of the snow. I really cannot think of any other bands that make me feel quite the same.

None. Music is always more or less produced by humans and especially metal, performed by non-acoustic instruments so that wont do it. Of course many folk bands and such, paint pictures of nature in my mind and bands like Drudkh can bring a smell of fresh autumn forest into one's nose but to feel "connected" is something else. Nature's very own ambience is unbeatable, sometimes even total silence.

(I guess the real point of this thread was to ask what nature metal bands (...nature metal, sounds wierd haha!) you like. Drudkh and Ildjarn for me.)

Earth - Phase 3: Thrones and Dominions
Lethian Dreams' more recent work
Estatic Fear
The Fall of Every Season - From Below (the lyrics don't have much to do with nature, but the atmosphere is incredible)

But sometimes nature can be ablaze with sound. I think that's what most people think of when they listen to certain stuff. Or the point of the thread was to ask which bands you'd listen to while out in nature. Music can enhance everything. I can't stand total silence. I think for you, Drudkh could definitely enhance the experience of actually being IN that fresh autumn forest, right?

Another one just popped into my mind, it's the debut of Forgotten Woods. Perfect winter atmosphere.

You were afraid that mentioning them might be considered too hip, branding you as a trendster and a conformist. How non-conformistic of you to allow your peers' opinion on a band determine whether to mention them out loud or not. Brilliantly reasoned!

Finntroll's acoustic album Visor Om Slutet is highly underrated as far as acoustic/ambient albums go; though the band is known for their goofy metal material they pulled off this somber, apocalyptic vibe - like nature is coming back to reclaim the planet from civilization on that one. I once drove through the countryside with some friends after a rainstorm while listening to that album and it was one of the best musical experiences of my life.

I'd like to second that. :) I love that album. I'd also like to add Korpiklaani. When you look past their drinking/party-songs they have some good ones about nature, the changing of the seasons and a spirituality in connection to nature that I like very much.

I would have to say Walknut, it's the first (and only) band I can think (and remember) of that reminds and places me in nature.
