“It is with great regret that we are forced to cancel tonight’s show in Oslo as well as tomorrow night’s show in Malmö.

Alexi was rushed to the Oslo hospital earlier this evening with extreme stomach pain. The doctors in the emergency unit checked him and while we are still waiting for a diagnosis, they made clear that he will not be able to perform within the next 48 hours.

We apologize to all our fans who have bought tickets to these shows - we will try to reschedule both Oslo and Malmö at the earliest possibility. Keep your fingers crossed with us that Alexi will get well again soon!”

Appendicitis, I'm calling it. Purely because it's like my biggest fear in the universe. Every time I get a mild stomachache I get this initial pang of "Oh shit my appendix just burst", and apparently I get that same knee-jerk reaction when it's other people too.

Hope it doesn't knock them out of commission for too long. I haven't really liked them much since AYDY, but their first four albums will always have a special place in my heart.

I had appendicitis when i was 12. It wasn't too bad but.....drinking barium will haunt me for the rest of my life.

Ugh... that shit was so disgusting.

It could be appendicitis, although that would have extreme pain below the stomach. Or maybe it does reach to the stomach? I had appendicitis 2 years ago so I vaguely remember. It was more than likely something he ate that didn't do well with his stomach.

I actually have some major respect for the constitutions of touring musicians. If something's hit someone as well-toured as Laiho this hard, then you know it's probably kinda serious.

Appendicitis also briefly came to mind upon reading the title, but after reading the OP, I'd say it's nearly impossible. The guy was admitted at a hospital and they are "still waiting for a diagnosis"; any MD would have spotted appendicitis within minutes of his admission. So no such luck, I think.

I remember around 2006 when I used to get hit by extreme stomach pains nearly every other morning (in school, I'd have to excuse myself and just sit doubled-over in a bathroom stall until it passed). In my case it was caused by a double hernia. Hope things turn out alright from him, because that shit is not cool.

I wonder if all the drinking has finally caught up with him. I wish him the best. Their last few albums may not be as great as the classic stuff, but CoB kick ass live.

Could be a bleeding ulcer. I had a stomach ulcer once before (non-bleeding one thankfully, I suspect it was caused by too much ibuprofen when I had a nasty cold a few days beforehand) and it hurt like hell, a bleeding one must be a nightmare.

Probably too much blood in his alcohol stream.

If it is alcohol-related, I hope Alexi (and the rest of CoB) learns from it. There's so much footage of them drinking, or being so drunk they can't play on youtube, it's disheartening to see musicians in such a state.

Alexi has toned it down on strong alcohol drinks AFAIK.

He's still hospitalised in Oslo because of a "serious infection" and the performance at Ruisrock has been cancelled.

It was a joke based mainly on an episode of the cartoon TV show King of the Hill, in which little Bobby Hill surreptitiously woofs down a large dish of lutefisk, which in turn causes him to suffer painful gastric distress and extreme bouts of explosive flatulence. I believe people generally joke about lutefisk a bit, even without knowing that TV show reference too.

$20 says it's alcohol-related. Even though he's cut down on drinking, if you were as extreme of an alcoholic as Alexi was, it can very possibly effect you permanently.

sounds like an ulcer...common among hard drinkin' rock n'roll types. He's a great musician, probably among the most talented of the newer metal guitarists. Heres hoping its nothing serious and he gets better soon!

While it sucks that he's sick, Children of Bodom is a truly awful band. Also, I'm not surprised that this happened, as Alexi Laiho is notorious for extremely heavy drinking even by Finnish standards. At the rate he's going, his liver will be shot before he's forty.
