It appears that Brutality is now active once again. Anyone who is a fan of Brutality knows that the band has already attempted a reformation several times in the past, but this time the lineup appears to be perhaps more solid. While there was no outright confirmation of this, it seems that the involved lineup will be the "Screams of Anguish" CD lineup sans drummer Jim Coker, and they are currently on the search for a new drummer. The statement implies the band will also write new material. Let's hope this band manages to stick it out long enough to do a few gigs and another album this time around...I'm very interested to hear what a new Brutality would sound like.

Well, this is exciting!
Hopefully this lineup sticks, I'd love to hear what new Brutalty would have to offer.

Good band, but metal reunions don't have the best track record.

I'm limiting my inner excitement because as a fan of the band I know how these comebacks have worked in the past. That and the fact that Brutality reunited never worked out!

Good news if it's something to last more than a couple of months.

Indeed, Cynic have been doing well too. Let's not forget that the mighty Heaven and Hell was a reunion too. That said, Brutality kick ass and I'm expecting good things.

I totally forgot about that until now. I wonder if the original line-up was the plan... Haha.

Listening to a lot of Brutality today. Man they released 3 killer albums.

Doing so made me think about the fact I have a major problem with all this talk of Larry Sapp. It's totally fucking bad news for this band and an embarrassment. They, especially Jeff Acres should have let that topic just die on the vine and never mentioned it in interviews. I know Sapp tried to take a lot of the credit for Screams of Anguish and touted he was the early driving force behind the band and pissed those guys off.

But who fucking cares about that guy??? Acres should not have retorted that the guy became a woman, because it totally marginalizes the bands creditability in the long run. Why because of homophobia? No not that, because instead of talking about killer music that shit always becomes a focal point and joke regarding this band.

Damn Florida dm bands sure love perpetuating this white trash tabloid persona.

What are you on and on about dude? Can't you appreciate their music despite all the trash talk?! Because that's what's important in the end, not people's opinions about the individuals composing or having composed Brutality.

Those Metal Mind reissues of their 3 albums are solid and were in decent demand, relatively speaking. If that's provided some kind of inspiration to get going again after their first attempt a few years ago, they have my support.

If these guys can find a drummer and keep their shit together, Demolition Hammer's run out of excuses.

I do appreciate their music, they are a favorite of mine and their music is sick. As far as what I'm on, just a lot of caffeine.

I'm stoked for new Brutality. Their first two albums are among my favorite Florida death metal albums of all time. I hope this controversy over Larry Sapp doesn't overshadow their music...

Indeed. Who gives a fuck if a former member transitioned? It's her life so who cares? The media always has to worry about sensationalist bullshit. I wouldn't care if the whole band were transchicks, transmen, etc. As long as they can rock that is all I am concerned with. All of the rest of the "controversy" is just babble at this point. Big deal.

Meh, In Mourning wasn't that great. The first two are certainly better, even though I've not listened to Brutality in quite some time.

Sure it isn't as awesome as the first two, although I still find it to be rather enjoyable. I've actually purchased it recently and have thus completed my Brutality collection. It's also a fact that I put Screams Of Anguish on the same level, give or take a notch, than Disincarnate's only album. So anything they released is bound to be hold up against some really high standards. ;)

This is a reason why I think anything new they release will be a critical failure.

True. Look at what a failure new Terrorizer has been for proof of why some bands should just let sleeping dogs lie. That is why I can respect a band like Repulsion who admit that making a new record would be a mistake since they feel they could never match the intensity of the old days.

There's probably no way of getting around the likely possibility that any new material will have some modernisms in it, at least production-wise. Seeing as how they're still based out of Florida, having Mark Lewis or Jason Suecof attached to it also wouldn't be much of a stretch. That doesn't concern me even as it probably should because I'd rather see a long gone band such as this give it one more shot than not take one at all. They know their audience is resigned to diehard followers at this point anyway and/or those that caught onto them after they disbanded through forums and sites like this one. It's not like they've been actively touring with bands mismatched to their style or even touring at all. And I'll even concede that yeah, most reunion albums fall in the range of "what was the point?," but I won't disqualify anything Brutality might put out in the future as such because of that. If that makes me another sucker, so be it. The same could be said to hangers-on of several, maybe even hundreds of bands across all genres that overstayed their welcome in spite of declining quality of studio albums.

I have few logical reasons to be so optimistic, but fuck it. It's Florida death metal. If some of their peers of the era aren't inspired enough to keep their legacies worthwhile, let Brutality have a chance of kickstarting theirs back from the dead.

Hey folks,
Just thought Iwould clear the air on a few things. I have been reading the posts and couldnt agree more with most of the statements made. The (Larry Sapp) thing got way out of hand. Larry did go through a gender change . Jeff was simply tired of being asked the question and finally stated in an interview . YES LARRY IS A WOMAN NOW .. Please move on . Then the media took it from there . Larry did take it the wrong way and retaliated in defense. I know Larry personally and still occacsionally jam with him/her . Now on to bigger more important issues. The Screams of Anguish lineup was the one that the world came to know as BRUTALITY . We had gone from a thrashcore style in the Larry days to writing heavier more melodic material (Hence is why Larry was removed . He simply couldnt play it nor had any interest in it ) . The attempts at getting the lineup back together failed simply becouse the wrong people were at play . The core writing lineup that wrote Screams And Skys was no longer in the fold. People that had no right to be involved got involved therefore putting the bands sound in jeapordy . Nuclear Blast also had a huge part in Brutalitys demies . No support and they pocketed a shitload of cash . Therefore ending any ability for the band to move forward . The Screams Lineup always knew that we had something special to offer . Can i gaurantee a better release than SCREAMS ???? Naturally knowone can gaurantee that . But!! I can personally assure you. WE ARE GONNA DAM WELL TRY !!!! We have had nearly 20 years of ideas built up to put into the new recordings. The musicians are Better people, Better Players and have a great sense of value and Appreciation towards its fans. The In Morning release was by far nothing compared to Screams or Sky's . The talent was great but the feelign was lost. Jeff , Scott and Jim Coker new this and at that tiem decided it was best to let dad dogs sleep until the Screams lineup could once again coem together . Ican only commend them for that . Instead of flooding the market with garbage and padding the pockets of a greedy label . The ymade the choice to simply semi-retire the band . BRUTALITY is back and all we can do is say Thank You for allowing us the pleasure of once again kcicking your ass's :) .. No harm meant there . It just felt good to say . LOL .. PEACE EVERYONE !!!! Don Gates
