From what we've seen from interviews and all this "Von Music Group" shit I think it's pretty clear Venien is just in this to make money. I'm not sure how much money there is Von but I think he's going to milk it for all it's got.

The old Von recordings are some of the best black metal ever, but fuck this bullshit.

Beating a very, very dead horse. Von has become the Coolio of black metal.

Won't check this out. The Satanic Blood demo is great, the Blood Angel demo isn't bad, but I won't support this bullshit, VMG to be boycotted.

Not interested in hearing, but not going to "burn my Von records" so to speak (that is, if I actually had them).

"Brand new studio recording?" huh? Sheesh, most of those songs are 20 years old already!! Hasn't he written any new songs after all this time?

Maybe next year he'll do a "VON's Greatest Hits" album, followed by another album called "The Very Best of VON" the year after that.

I don't think those will happen. At least not through NWN since Venien has slandered the previous releases as bootlegs. IMO it's quite funny that this Venien, who supposedly is the original bassist but did not play on the demos that everybody knows, suddenly came forth couple years ago and takes the credit on everything. Nobody even knew about him having any kind of part before he appeared.

I know for a fact they didn't even sell all of the Satanic Blood 2010 7 inches, because he started giving them away for free on last.fm.

In fact there was a fucking ridiculous moment last year where he nearly got my youtube account removed because I had shared the new Von material for people to listen to for free, then a couple of days later I "won" two spare copies of the EP on last.fm and he ended up paying with his own money to ship them to me! :D

If he carries on with this level of business acumen he'll be bankrupt in a year.

Post subject:  Re: "Von" releasing "new" album

All he would have to do is write like 4 tremolo riffs and he would have a new release. Von is some of the most musically simple stuff out there. His laziness is intense.

So "Goat" isn't even in the band anymore and this jackass is going to re-record and re-release stuff he never played on? what a loser.

Author:  Oxenkiller [ Wed May 16, 2012 8:05 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: "Von" releasing "new" album

yeah it really shouldnt be too hard to come up with new songs for this band. Countless garage punk bands play the same type of music but with different (less black metal-sounding) chord progressions. I could write about a half dozen VON-styled songs in less than an hour!

I totally get the fact that with NWN! re-releasing the demo's that Venien would be pissed at not getting any royalties, and would want to sue for creative control of his music. Assuming of course that he wrote those songs to begin with; who really knows at this point. Heck, anyone could have written that; it's like Tenacious D's "one note song"- anyone could have written that, but who DID write it?? So much frikkin' drama for one utterly forgettable 3 piece band. If it wasnt for the Norwegian black metal guys hyping the band in the early 90's, after VON were already broken up, people would have totally forgotten about them and nobody would have even gave a shit whether that material was ever re-released or not. The guy should just write some new dang songs already or else start a new band.

Post subject:  Re: "Von" releasing "new" album

So we got one guy who was in the original band but didn't make the demo recordings re-recording the demo songs with two other guys who were never in the band and releasing them under the old band's name as a "new" album named after one of the demos that no one in the band was involved in the recording of.

YEAH THIS SOUNDS LEGIT ALL RIGHT.

Fuck it, at least we know one of the guys responsible for recording the demos got the royalties from the NWN reissue. This whole "Von Music Group" thing is just bullshit all around. And I LIKED those old demos and would welcome a real reunion/new material from the band.

Why should he get royalties for something where he doesn't play or take any part? The whole scheme smells like a scam to a mile away and this Venien is in only for the money now that he has seen the underground popularity of Von.

Satanic Blood... again? Really? Wasn't the last single called Satanic Blood? And the 1992 demo?

Fuck it, just name every new record you put out Satanic Blood. Milk the super-niche legacy of that demo till it dries the fuck out.

No I can't imagine too much money either. But maybe a little bit of underground fame.
There's a lot of talk on message boards at least ;)

I'm sure the album will sell like hotcakes.

It'd be interesting to see whether Venien and co have re-arranged any of the songs especially now that Goat has left.

VON also stated recently on one of their hundred Facebook pages that they are doing no less that 16 SPLIT ALBUMS! with 16 different bands. Hilarious stuff! aswell as a new VON album,A Von Venien album and world tours and fanzines and festivals and custom guitars.

This is awesome. ;-)

Post subject:  Re: "Von" releasing "new" album

I don't think they were ever a particularly good live band. Listen to this, dude, this is priceless... I was digging around in my old metal memorabilia, and re-reading an old D.I.Y. underground magazine called "Necropolis" from late 1991. The author, Paul Thind, was reviewing a gig where VON had opened for Cannibal Corpse, Gorguts and Atheist, and basically just ripped on them:

"...The actual show started out with one of those pathetic satanic Death Metal bands: Von. Yeah they did get laughed at with their stage props...I was walking around with Eric from Gorguts when these guys played and we had a good time laughing at them!! I dont think I can say anything good about this band, so I won't" - Paul Thind, NECROPOLIS Magazine, fall 1991.

I've heard some of their recordings and I don't think they're bad for what they are, which is very basic, 3 -chord tremolo picked riffing style black metal, but it's certainly not rocket science. The point is, this band was utterly dismissed and ridiculed at the time. But, they got a bit of a hype a few years later with the whole Varg/Euronomous thing, and then instead of trying to improve on what they were doing back then, they simply try to cash in on what little popularity the "Norwegian Black Metal" hype had gained them and just do the exact same dang songs over again. I cannot imagine how this could ever work to their benefit.
