I'm three songs in so far and it's pretty great. I never gave these guys a shot because I was never crazy about later Emperor, but Samoth has really upped his game. Really agressive shit.

I am not sure how late in Emperor's career you are talking, but Ihsahn wrote everything on Prometheus. My understanding is that even before Prometheus Samoth had less and less input as time went on. Thanks for posting this though, I will have to check it out, I had always shied away from this project because I wasn't crazy about Zyklon.

Well, I stand corrected. This is still better than their first record though.

Exactly. From their beggining up to Anthems, Ihsahn and Samoth wrote music like 50% each. From IX Equilibrium Ihsahn took over the songwriter until Prometheus that was completely done by him, that's why I have some faith in Samoth.

Samoth has a fairly distinct and recognizable riffing/songwriting style. Listen to Ye Entrancemperium and Hammer Revelation to see what I mean.

Indeed, so what do you guys think about this record? I don't think it's groundbreaking, but it's solid as fuck.

Samoth had about 50% input on IX Equilibrium too.

I've never listened to this new band of his, but I'll definitely be giving it a shot.
