I know the band isn't the most liked on this board, but I posted in the NP thread about it and it generated nominal interest, so I'll give it a go.

The album art (which is pretty damn splendid if I do say so myself):
Image

Listen to the new song "Nourishment Through Bloodshed" here.

I think it's pretty cool (though being a blatant fanboy, I could say the same about the rest of their discography :() - it brings back the massive groovy riffs from Ruination and mixes them with the slightly blackened Black Dahlia-esque riffs from Gloom. I'm a much bigger fan of the former than the latter, so I for one am pretty delighted about this partial return to form. The vocals haven't changed at all (which is a good thing in my book), and while the riffing isn't exactly the best the band have ever pulled off I think it'll either grow on me or the rest of the album will blow me completely away.

Thoughts?

What I wanted what a full-length that sounded like Gloom, their best work to date in my book, and if this track is an indicator of anything, that's what we're getting. I can't wait for it! :headbang:

meh. . . Johnny Davy always was an interesting vocalist, in that he sounded more like Scooby Doo with laryngitis than an actual serious death metal vocalist.

Doom will remain the greatest thing they've ever done.

Sounds just like everything else they have done aside from that shitty ass ep Doom that sucked so much dong.

I have enjoyed everything after Doom and shall be picking this up as well. the song doesn't sound as memorable as stuff off Genesis but that won't stop me from spending more time with it.

I like the artwork, though they could've done better I think.

The bass player from Cephalic Carnage is in the band now. It would be really interesting to see him expand on JFAC's low end department. Especially considering his recent work with Cephalic Carnage.

I'm really loving the artwork. I haven't payed any attention to these guys since shortly after Gloom, but this might pull me back in. I like what I'm hearing.

The artwork would be a thousand times better if it was hand drawn.

They do everything competently, but it dosen't excite me. The only cool part was the solo. At least in the Doom days, even if everyone bashes it, they sounded like they had conviction.

Halfway through the song I forgot what band it was, then I thought it was Spawn of Possession. Indeed, this song sounds quite similar to SoP.

I tend to agree, and not just because I am one of those guys... but I don't think the collage of everything is working well. the background and foreground look too different from each other. they really don't mesh visually and not in the contents... just I don't know how to describe it.. Like it's incomplete... like this was a mock up of the actual cover to be done and then they went on and slapped the logo on top and called it a day a month early.

That album cover looks like something from a late '90s Westwood Studios game cutscene.

Haha, that's actually a really apt comparison! As for the song, glad to see there's a little more breathing room, I found that a lot of their material tends to become overcomplicated and a bit unfocused as songs would progress, it'd get to the point where I'd just lose interest. I'm curious to hear more.

Boring as usual, at least for me. And I really wish the vocalist would stop trying to go high with his growl, because his higher range is annoying as hell.

It sounds like crap though even worse with Davy who can't seem to ever do his highs correctly, its as if this band just read from the book 'How to play Modern death metal 101' and wrote even more generic riffs than the turd known as Genesis. At least Doom was mildly entertaining and the band wasn't trying to please purists then.

is that a bad thing? I also got some heavy red alert 2 vibes from it, a plus if anything else...

First time listening to this band and, I dunno, I guess I was expecting something a bit more vicious. It's just generic modern death metal with somewhat annoying vocals, oh well. I'd probably prefer some amateur deathcore to this, at least that stuff's sort of amusing..

When I heard the song I wasn't too too impressed, but I'm still looking forward to it. I've liked everything they've done (except for Doom and their first demo). I haven't been a fan of their groovy cacophonous filler riffs though so hopefully they cut down on that and just stick to the fast paced brutal and/or melodic riffs.

It's not that I just usually prefer hand drawn art to CGI, but I actually think that the album cover we're discussing here would look much better done by, I don't know..... Dan Seagrave, perhaps? It's just logical thinking to me.

The new album is streaming in its entirety here, if anyone's interested. I'm listening to it right now, and so far it sounds like the best they've done yet.

I have my copy of Demonocracy coming in the mail this week. Il hold off until then. Every song they have released sounded good though. Imperium Wolves being my favorite so far. I get the feeling it will be an improvement over Ruination. Most of the reviews I have come across say that the musicianship and technical ability has really evolved.

although every damn time Johnny Davy does that high pitched Dani Filth-esque scream twelve unborn babies die in their mother's womb. . .
he really needs to stop screaming, or get someone else in the band to do it instead.

Literally the worst cover and title of all time. Never been a worse thing.

The songs themselves are mostly boring, production is awful.

I can't believe this is the same band that made that godawful Doom EP, a strong contender for the worst album to attract mainstream attention. Seriously good stuff here, currently in position #11 on my top of 2012 list, out of the 63 albums I've listened to, and may very well work it's way higher. Some of the best songwriting I've heard in tech death in a while.

Just listened to the track Dillon posted. I love how the annoying little advert at the beginning was about believing in Jesus...

Too modern for my taste. Not liking the twang twang noise the guitars make at times and the high pitched vocals are annoying. The production is too loud as well.

The entire band needs to stop. Or at least write riffs that are actually threatening

I turned Demolition Hammer off for that shit? No thank you, I'll pass. Couldn't even last 45 seconds before the high vocals and plastic production proved to be intolerable.
