Why does it come with "beer mats" when all the album's going to be good for is as a coaster anyway?

Dragonforce is kind of a guilty pleasure. I really wouldn't mind seeing how this turns out with the new singer.

I absolutely love power metal, so it always astonishes me how boring Dragonforce can be. I'll probably just check it out to see what the new vocalist sounds like and then move on with my life.

I'll listen to it. Probably not with a positive attitude, but still.

Eh, Dragonforce is a fun band. It's catchy, high-speed stuff, nothing more or less...I'll probably like it if they keep the hooks catchy as AIDS as they usually do.

I seen them with the new guy when they supported Maiden. He was really good, I just wished they had more varied material to show him off. Their songs are a bit repetitive in approach.

Great, more pointless, 8 minute long sessions of high speed wanking! I can't wait!

Can't wait for this one! Dragonforce do power metal as well as any band out there. Ultra Beatdown was a bit of a letdown, but hopefully getting a new singer sparked a bit more creativity in them (though I can't imagine anyone ever replacing ZP)

Not necessarily. 'Die by the Sword' is a fairly generic title which could easily work for a typical fire and brimstone power metal song. And I really can't see the Slayer song as fitting in among Dragonforce's usual fare.

But then again, Vital Remains tried their hands at a Maiden song. And it didn't come out well. AT ALL.

Sure their songs can be repetitive, drawn out, and unoriginal but I don't mind some fast paced ultra melodic flower metal from time to time.

This is literally the worst name for an album ever. In fact, it's so bad, that if Seth Putnam were still alive, I would say the album title deserves it's own AC song.

Their first two albums are really great slabs of wicked fast power metal. After that, they just kept doing the same damn thing, but not as well.

Interested to hear the new singer, though.

We should have a bet to see who can correctly guess the number of times the phrase "So far away" will be sung on this album. I put my money on 17.

I bought their latest album and what i hate about this band is that all the songs sound the same. This is what plagues them the most to be honest.

Yeah all their songs sound the same and they just play shitty but really really fast and all that, but I love them anyway. You aren't allowed to have an opinion if you were introduced to them via "Through the Fire and Flames", especially if it was because of Guitar Hero, because I'm a fucking hipster. But anyway yeah, they're fun and catchy and stupid and that's their appeal. They're the cotton candy of power metal. I'll check this out and probably think it's okay and then not listen to it for two or three months because that's what I do with all of their albums.

 I pretty much agree with all of that. I usually play their album for a week or two and then forget about it for like 3 or 4 months until I randomly decide I am in the mood for something ridiculously cheesy and over the top.

It's easy to forget how good Sonic Firestorm is with all the attention "Through the Fire and Flames" and their other later material got. "Above the Winter Moonlight" is a great tune.

This, all the way. I decided to finally give them a chance, and all I could listen to was "Through the Fire and Flames" because every other song sounded the same, minus the sentimentality of playing it on GH3 thousands of times.

Love that album. Solid power metal with just enough variety in each song that it doesn't become monotonous or repetitive to an offensive extent.

The new singer sounded badass in the video I saw of him so I'll probably check it out just to see if he makes them at least listenable. I could never stand ZP.

Their best album was still 'valley of the damned'. Sure, it had the hyper speed sections and over the top soloing, but every song was ridiculously catchy and fun. As long as they remember to actually write songs and don't make another inhuman rampage they should be fine. In other words, stay away from bloated 8 minute songs balooned by gratitous solos and without enough vocal (the choruses are one the best thigns about power metal in general) and riff support to back it up. On inhuman rampage the generally had strong intros, outros and choruses but the riffing and solo work suffered from being stretched too thin.

The song titles are so generic it almost seems parodic -- which might be the intention. The cover's bland as fuck, too.

While I've long since grown jaded of DragonForce, I'll still be checking this out, just for the hell of it.

By the titles alone, I know what to expect.

OOOOONNN THE WIIIIIIIINGS OF LIIIIIIIIIIBEEEEERTYYYYYY WEEEEE FLYYYYYYY-EYYYY
SPREEADIIING HOOOOPE TOOO ALLLL AAAACROSS THE SKYYYYYY
SOOOO FAAAARRR AWAAAAAAYYYY WEEEEE TRAVELLLL OOOOONNN
FIGHTING EVIIILL TILLLL ALLLL IIIIIISSS GOOOOONE

All of this over a metal cover of Chill Penguin's theme. Id probably really like the band if they were instrumental and kept it fast and cheesy like boss battle music.

Yeah, I did the whole TTFAF awe phase, checked out a few more songs by them, then ignored them for years now. Recently, I've felt I got enough distance from them to get a fresh experience. And...well...I can think of several highly praised power metal albums that are not as good as Valley of the Damned or Inhuman Rampage.

Though I've been defending them, this is entirely correct. Bonus points for the Mega Man X reference, but we all know Spark Mandrill's theme is the best.
