As hilarious as this thought is, Varg is more racist than every hippie combined.

You mean his epic Tarzan screams? He should scream like that more often.

I'm looking forward to this. I love early and new Burzum.

While I can understand why the new albums are not liked in the same extent as the old ones, I really think that musically this albums are just as good as the old ones. I'm sure that the reception of Belus and Fallen could have been so different if they were released in 99 or so. I don't really give a flying fuck of how many bands copied Varg's style, Burzum still sounds unique and completely aside from the rest of black metal bands out there, both old and new. For instance, when I heard Belus död and specially Glemselens Elv, I thought - and still to these days - that Varg is an unrivaled composer. Jeg Faller is another song that really stand out to me as much as Jesus Tod, Lost Wisdom, Det Som Engang Var of Black Spell of Destruction.

About the artwork, I guess it's very fitting for what Varg is doing now. The 'new' Burzum sounds much more nature (forest) inspired than the desolate darkness that the old albums have, so those colorful covers are fine to me.

Btw, I loved Varg's screams in the re-recordings.

They're not really screams, that's the problem. It's like he's trying to scream but there something stuck in his throat, it's really annoying.

For a guy who was imprisoned so long, he couldn't 'rehearse' his screams and finally he didn't like how he did it in the past, I think he's doing a very good job.

I guess he's still working with Pytten in Grieghallen, right?

Belus was shite, Fallen was half decent, let's hope this album continues to improve on the last ones.

Meh. I've had a tough time giving a shit about Varg's antics since he got out of prison. Both Belus and Fallen were severely lacking in what I had come to expect from Burzum records.

Varg says he wants nothing to do with the supposed "homosexual and nigger acting" black metal scene, his new albums are obviously evidence of that. lol!!! love this man.

On another note, this has nothing to do with burzums music, but i was in the metal section of FYE a few months ago, and two little kids were chasing each other and pointing and giggling at the cover of Fallen sitting on the shelf. Only Burzum could evoke such terror in the fragile minds of these younglings!!!

Good news, the last two albums are quite interesting, nothing outstanding but good works. The only problem I see is the lack of keys so I am still waiting for a "modern" version of Hvis tar loss if Varg finally decides to introduce the keys in his new songs.

And yes, the album cover is simply marvellous. I dont buy LPs so I hope he will release a special digipack to enjoy this great picture.

By the way, what the helll is skaldic metal????

And about the title, Am I the only who thinks that it can have a hidden sense? perhaps a departure from the sound of the new albums or something like that.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skald

I guess he's calling it Skaldic due to the source material the lyrics are based on? Also Wiki says that Skaldic poetry was spoken, not sung or chanted. I wonder if he will perform in this manner.

The cover art is beautiful.

I love how in order to understand the lyrical themes you are recommended to buy Varg's book. You just have to pick up the Elder Edda (Viking mythological poems) from your local library and you'll learn what Völuspá is all about. Its a pretty cool story.

I assume the cover is a tree because of Varg's boner for Norse Mythos. It's most likely there to represent Yggdrasil, the life-tree which Odin hung himself from for 9 days. I really like it, hope its a digipak like Belus and Fallen.

I thought that Varg looped his own playing, that's why many beats sounds the same. (Looks like he did it on the old albums too). Also, Varg has never been a fan of drum rolls or something, he always kept the drums the simplest he could (I guess he never was a very good drummer to being with, so it's pretty logical to record each section many times and use the best takes).

Loved Belus and Fallen and even a few of the re-recorded tracks off of From the depths of darkness. I wonder what style this new cd will be? From the looks of the cover, it will probably be more like Belus with atmospheres and themes revolving around nature. Has anyone heard about Varg bringing back some keyboards into his music? It'd be great to hear a little keys on this new cd!

That's pretty much all I want. Belus/Fallen, but with keys. I'd also like to hear more of his oddly atmospheric clean vocals.

Yeah. And he also says he writes the music, but who's to say it's really not some until now undiscovered songs written by Eric Clapton?
No but seriously. Grieghallen is a well respected studio (outside metal circles as well), so saying that something is recorded there when it's not would not only be stupid but also made public pretty quick.

Are those Merino wool socks? Good choice!

Very happy to hear there's another Burzum album, and not too surprising really.

I never envisaged Varg becoming so prolific after his release from prison. I always assumed he'd take at least three years in between albums but what do I know? I for one am looking forward to it. The artwork is lush, too. Very nice.

Oh, f*ck, I cant see this image. Has he used keys????

By the way, too many songs for me taste, I would like fewer but longer compositions, with this kind of song is when Varg creates the unique atmosphere of this best tracks.

In this picture Varg looks reminiscent of techno viking.

Agreed. What other way is there to properly express appreciation for old jokes?

Something strikes me as off about that photo of Varg. I mean, he's in his socks, in a big comfy studio, with a fancy guitar. I always expected him to be in a pit he dug in the middle of the the forest with a stringed axe (literal axe) plugged into a stack of worms.

Varg's image of Asatru mountain man that has sort of been cultivated by fans is in stark contrast to the reality of firmly upper middle class/rich kid sociopath who's received heavy financial subsidy from his family. In short, don't hate the player, hate the game. Or something like that.

Wasn't his dad a big time contractor in Iraq after the first gulf war? He's not a dungeon dweller.

Varg mentioned living in Iraq. I remember reading something from him stating such a couple years ago.

Is there something wrong with socks? He's always recorded in Grieghallen, and that carpet hardly constitutes "a big comfy studio." The guitar is some cheap Peavey. Sure isn't luxury...

I wish Varg would bring the keyboards back; his music sounds so boring otherwise. His new vocals are pretty bland, too. If this is anything like his previous two, I think I'll pass.

Nothing wrong with socks at all. I love chillin' in muh sox, but the last person I've ever pictured in their socks is Varg. I mean, obviously Varg wears socks. It gets cold in Norway. I just never pictured him in them, only combat boots. I've had mental images of Abbath in his socks, however, lettings them warm by the fire whilst thumbing through a volume of frostbitten lore.

Didn't know he always recorded in Grieghallen. The first few albums sounded like home recordings to me. But compared to what some bands have to deal with, that is a 'big comfy studio.

After some research, the guitar is a Peavy PDX 23 or some shit. About $400 retail. So yeah, not very expensive. But if he's the spoiled brat some are saying, I'm surprised he's not playing Les Pauls and PRS.

White-supremacist ex-convict as he is, I've always pictured Varg as the kind of fellow who'd offer around some biscuits if you came to his house... and also owning a cat. I guess it's just his soft-spoken interview style.
