Nothing wrong with socks at all. I love chillin' in muh sox, but the last person I've ever pictured in their socks is Varg. I mean, obviously Varg wears socks. It gets cold in Norway. I just never pictured him in them, only combat boots. I've had mental images of Abbath in his socks, however, lettings them warm by the fire whilst thumbing through a volume of frostbitten lore.

Didn't know he always recorded in Grieghallen. The first few albums sounded like home recordings to me. But compared to what some bands have to deal with, that is a 'big comfy studio.

After some research, the guitar is a Peavy PDX 23 or some shit. About $400 retail. So yeah, not very expensive. But if he's the spoiled brat some are saying, I'm surprised he's not playing Les Pauls and PRS.

I'm not sure but wasn't Filosofem recorded somewhere else? The rest were all done in Grieghallen excepting the prison-era albums.

Varg always said that the equipment is the least important thing for him, there's nothing weird of him to use a cheapo guitar.

Demonaz used a Epiphone explorer and Abbath uses LTD, when the latter could use a fancy ESP or a Gibson if he wanted, right?

Shamaatae has composed every Arckanum album with the same Yamaha RGX 112 (with custom pickups) and recorded with it everything excepting Fran Marder and Kostogher.

Interesting facts. Seems like with effects and modulation and everything available, it doesn't really matter what guitar you play nowadays. You can make a Yamaha Pacifica sound like a Les Paul with the right amp and pedal configuration.

Belus was really good and Fallen was even better. Thus, Umpskiptar without a doubt goes to my "most wanted 2012" list. I just hope that it isn't too similiar to the latter two. Fallen and Belus are clearly cousins and there is nothing wrong with that, but of course enuff is enuff. And yes, keyboards would be a great addition.

I'm all over this. Belus was solid but Fallen was near-great.

The more I look at that album cover, the more I want to think he's going to throw keys back in the mix. But the same could be said for the cover of Fallen, too.

Cool, I'll see if I can get it, I didn't like his Belum that much honestly, it had some good songs, hoping this one might be better overall.

I liked Belus much more than I liked Fallen, as Fallen was purely atmosphere without any dark riffing. The ambient pieces he did for that album were also incredibly boring. It didn't feel quite like Burzum.

Yeah, Belus was rad, whereas Fallen seemed really rushed in comparison. Regardless, still pretty keen on this album. Still gotta hear Depths of Darkness, too.

My opinion is quite the opposite. To me Belus has the atmosphere and Fallen has the riffs.

Same here, Jeg Faller and Valen - for example - strikes you instantly with the riffing and the razor sharp guitar tone, while Belus was more 'mellow' in execution and focused more in atmospheres/landscapes.

Yeah well such imagery is porn for ambient black metal fans as evidenced by the popularity of the landscape/scenic/nature photo thread.

This new album will probably be the album of the year if it is as good as the last two records.

Sigged.

Having said that(my curb your enthusiasm move ;) ) I do like the album cover a lot. Also, really stoked for this album. Hoping it sounds more like Belus than Fallen.

Wow. What the fuck does it matter what equipment he is using? Hell, I played a Harmony bass on my first band's demo, and the recording still came out pretty good considering I was 13 years old and we were playing Death Metal. This was in 1989, by the way.

So, it seems that it actually was temporary artwork, because there's a different image listed on the Plastichead website. It's strange, this art isn't displayed anywhere else, but it seems like this is the final artwork. I guess this means people can stop being apoplectic with rage over having a tree on the front cover. Doesn't bother me, I like both.

The Picture LP is by far the best and the CD is by far the lamest to my eyes. Figures since I'll only be interested in getting the CD.

Wow, awesome covers. Anyway the one I like less is the last one, which is really a pity because I only buys cds and not LPs. The first one is really impressive.

Indeed, one of his best cover arts (after Aske and HLTO). at the new Burzum "logo", though.

The artwork looks great for the LP and Picture disk not so much the CD. Where did you find the pictures for the LP / Picture disk I can only seem to find the CD -

UMPSKIPTAR (LIMITED DELUXE DIGIBOOK) - http://www.plastichead.com/catalogue.as ... =BYE010DBK
UMSKIPTAR - http://www.plastichead.com/catalogue.as ... t=BYE010CD

I'll be picking up both vinyl versions for sure. I'm totally in agreement with those who prefer the Picture Disc artwork.

Considering every single speech Hitler ever gave was marked to begin on the dot at a certain time, soldiers were regimented to be up and in uniform at a certain time, meetings were set to the very minute...yep, good argument.
