Yup. No release date though, just 'later this year'.

Very cool. At least we know there's a fraction of a chance this might actually come out soon.

I jizzed. I knew of new Gorguts through various zines and forums but this makes it official. Time to play some Gorguts for old times sake.

The wait has been killing me. I'm not even really a fan of them to begin with, but I remember hearing demo tracks of the new stuff on myspace ages ago and thinking that the full length would be great.

Interesting choice with SoM.

It was such an obvious option that they must have contacted them early on. So why did it take until now to announce this? Only thing I can see is that they were unhappy with the initial offer and shopped around for a while. The question is whether SoM improved their offer, or Gorguts caved and took what was best on the table. After reading the stock contract posted by the guy from Cormorant, I sincerely hope it was the former. Gorguts is too awesome of a band to get screwed over.

Dear fans,

It’s with so much joy and happiness that I write these lines to you. The past 2 years haven’t always been smooth sailing regarding this last record. A lot of legal, important factors, far from music composition have held this project in standby, but finally that’s all behind us now. The least I can say is that I cannot wait to share these last compositions with each of you.

Everything from writing these new songs, traveling to NYC for rehearsals developing a new friendship with John, Kevin and Colin, three of the most talented people I ever jammed with……everything from this project was beyond stimulating artistically.

From this experience was born a new GORGUTS record, a concept record which is going to last over an hour. An hour of epic, ambient, dark music which doesn’t compromise its Death Metal roots. As a composer, by exploring different kind of music, it was always my goal to integrate the same writing tools in Death Metal as if I would be writing a piece of chamber music for instance.

Also, for the first time, I’ve waited for the music to be finished before I even write a single word. It took me a long time to elaborate this concept. Not that I had to create a story from square one, I had to educate myself by reading many books, so I knew what I was talking about. Not from an historian point of view, but enough so I can express myself clearly on this topic and write an epic story.

As far as production goes we’ve worked with my long time friend: Pierre Rémillard who recorded OBSCURA (1998), FROM WISDOM TO HATE (2001) and even the band’s very first demo in 1990. The mixing duties will be handled by Colin at is own Menegroth, the thousand caves Studio.

Well, I’m really eager to share this new record with you! All I can say is that the wait is over and that 2013 will be a great year for GORGUTS. Thanks to each of you for your endless support since the very beginning and your endless patience for this record to be released!!!!! Without you none of this would be possible.

Thank you from the heart,

Sincerely,

Luc Lemay

That is great to hear; congrats to the guys from Gorguts. I hope that this is the end of major obstacles and we all get to listen to this and that Gorguts gets to play this music live in support of the new album sooner than later.

Onwards.

I just hope Longstreet doesn't go all ultra tech and thus suck the life out of the record.

I was curious about how he would sound playing in Gorguts too, being only familiar with his work in Origin but he's actually great fit

This is ... interesting?

Hi everybody,

Luc here,

Just a little word to tell you that our album OBSCURA will be played in it's totality on march 14th 5 PM (NY time) on air of this Greek
Prog Radio show: http://www.justincaseradio.com

I will participate to a chat with the fans while the album will play on air.

The show will be dedicated to the memory of Steeve Hurdle and Steve MacDonald. Two musicians who were largely responsible
for the sound and the "out of the box" quality of these compositions.

All the best,

Luc Lemay

Ah, a chat. Sweet. I'll try to tune in for this. Since there will definitely be talk about the upcoming album, better hear it from the horse's mouth.

Wait, sorry if this sounds dumb but is the band actually playing the whole album as a live performance on air or just the playback from the album itself?

So I kept peering into the chat from time to time while the music was on. Funnily, Luc uses lots of LOLLLLs but he seemed like a great guy telling us about the early recording days, a bit about Steeve and Steve, his solo classical work and of course info on the new album. He said that the album is mixed and ready. The artwork and layout is in the process of being finalized. A release date is yet to be finalized as well. When asked about the production of the new record and whether it'll have that modern sound, this is what he replied:

Quote:
Luc Lemay: No......The prod is very natural but yet have alot of Bite!!!!!!!!!Wait you hear John's drumming.........ALOT of suprises

For most of it, it was cool listening to 'Obscura' in its entirety after some time and during each song change, Luc would pass a couple of comments.
