Perfect example of why talking about art is potentially one of the worst ways to approach it. I was struggling to sit through that.

It's like he thought black metal was cool, read about, and misunderstood it completely.
Romanticism he does not understand either. String orchestras have what to do with romanticism??

People still think it's incorrect to classify some black metal as true, while other is not?

Edit: like... whatever... like that

Anyone who has ever questioned the existence of hipster "black" metal, there's your proof.

I could only get through about 30 seconds of that bullshit. The band members rolling their eyes and avoiding his gaze pretty much sums it up.

He should have just summed everything up with... "I only like Black Metal ironically"... HEILVETICA.

Funny: I knew exactly who was going to be in the video before I opened the link.

Yeah, dude comes off as a vapid windbag, but so do a lot of black metal bands who espouse any ideology as a prominent aspect of their project. I ignore what they have to say and enjoy the album none-the-less; 'Renihilation' is a good jam.

I was too confused to be offended by that, what the hell was he going on about, the other members looked pissed off at him.

After listening to some songs; it's not too bad for experimental noise rock, some quite interesting harmonic turns in the music. But the only thing "black metal" about this is that they call themselves black metal. Otherwise there is not a trace of any form of metal to be found.

Take one part DsO, add a pinch of Wolves in the Throne Room, some essence of Cascadia, stir and voilà, you've made yourself a Liturgy.

Wow.

I`m really into the mix between black metal and post-rock, and into bands categorized "hipster", like Krallice, WITTR, Agalloch, Alcest, and the likes, but this guy, THIS guy, makes me hope that the band members of the bands I`ve mentioned are not like that. One of the most pretentious assholes, and I fucking hate the tone of his talking voice, wich is clearly forced, as he speaks in a higher tone sometimes.

Listened to Liturgy and I thought it was a mess by someone who just wanna look cool doing something vaguelly ressembling BM. Doesn`t hold a candle to Krallice.

I turned it off when he said he was sickened by reveling in negativity. Thats kind of the point of black metal.

Man, the vocalist is an overly pretentious dweeb. Listening to the music itself, it seemed okay but nothing special. I guess that's what happens when you hype your music up to the level of Romanticism.

I love how after the vocalist says "Transcendentalist black metal" the other band members look really irritated-The guy in the hat looks down, almost like he's saying, "I'm not part of this...".

If you disconnect the bands ideology/image from the music, you'll probably hear black metal in this.

Not at all pure, but I would think "black metal" before anything else listening to this.

Right. A previous poster mentioned noise rock, which I'm not really familiar with, but I definitely would throw this under the black metal umbrella as well.

Hehehe, what a huge dork. These guys are just as (if not moreso) nerdier than your average overly-grim and corpepainted black metal band. Their music doesn't seem all that bad and I admire their attempt to induce a paradigm shift in black metal, but they still look like they need a lot of work. Also, did you guys see the crowd they were playing for? So stiff and bored-looking; god forbid that you actually show some enjoyment and excitement for the music you like.

I fucking hate Liturgy. I fucking hate all the members of Liturgy. I don't care if it's just one of them that's this overbearingly pretentious and awful; the others are all enabling him by being in the band. This sort of bullshit is ten thousand times more destructive to the integrity of metal than any metalcore band could be.

The drummer seems alright, he just seems more focused on the music and the feeling he gets from being in a semi-jam based band. The singer, however, seems like those guys who throw out random words without actually knowing what they mean.

He never actually established a connection between Romanticism and Black Metal - he mentioned they had a connection, went off on a tangent about tremolo picking, and then attempted to prove whatever point he made with his earlier statement that has no backing. IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE.

What a great interview from a bunch of smart kids. If only more black metal bands had the sort of intelligence as Liturgy. Then maybe, just maybe the scene would get out of the bad direction it is heading in.

By the way, I don't remember hearing even once about Liturgy or this Hunter shithead before the black metal symposium where he made an idiot of himself.

I hate when hipsters talk with a vague croak because they saw some other prick hipster do it and they thought it would be something cool to emulate. This guy is clearly repeating verbatim some four syllable words he heard from some other clueless cunt.

You know when you watch movies like Borat, and it is so agonizingly awkward that it makes you feel uncomfortable in your own skin... but you can't look away... ... ... yeah...

Do you honestly think tremolo picking makes any kind of music black metal?
Listen to the actual music, look beyond the shallow imitations of black metal techniques and the attempts to recreate the black metal "sound".
