Just wondering how many people out there are fans of the band. Do you guys think Vittra is an underrated album of it's time. What are your opinions on their most recent albums?

This

But I will say that Vittra is the only Naglfar album that I enjoy. It definitely is underrated, especially with the solos. The atmosphere on the album doesn't go overboard, it just resonates from the guitars like magic. The only true masterpiece by the band, I say. The new stuff hasn't caught my attention at all; kind of blandish black metal.

You didn't ask for opinions on their mid-era albums, so here it is. The only album I've heard from them was Sheol, and I only heard it once or twice a long time ago. I remember thinking that it was one of the most repugnant metal albums I'd ever heard. It was basically black-pop-rock. Some specifics I recall are verse/chorus and inane rhyming couplets. That may sound petty, but I do remember that I was instantly offended by every part of it, before noticing those specifics. As a result I'll probably never get around to checking their other stuff.

I think Naglfar used to be a great band. Diabolical is by far my favourite albums of theirs, but Vittra is also a classic album. But fuck, The Brimstone Gate is such an epic and huge song. So damn powerful!
Sheol is also a great album. But they went downhill after that. Pariah is weak and Harvest is just horrible.

Thirded

Edit - Naglfar are a good band, I have a few of their cds but for some reason I left them to gather dust on my shelf, I remember their later stuff being quite good also, this will make me dig them out and give them another listen.

I've only heard their more recent albums so far. I like them reasonably well. They are very catchy, although I would hardly consider them a black metal band at this point. I like them reasonably well, I've certainly heard better bands though.

Vittra is underrated? News to me, it's generally considered their best work. I think it's a very enjoyable album; I was lucky enough to snatch an original copy not too long ago, thus re-discovering it. Great stuff.

I generally enjoy the rest of their material as well. I have no problem with Sheol nor Pariah; I can see how they're considered more generic compared to Vittra, but fuck, I have such a blast whenever I spin them that I just couldn't care less ;)

Own everything theyve put out. Theyre a good band, every album has a couple of songs I enjoy a lot. I got really into them during my later high school and early college years- lately theyre not as interesting to me, but I still love I am Vengence.

Also Ive seen em live, and theyre great.

Great band, I have the last two albums and are quite good, especially Pariah.

About Vittra, this album has been always considered as the masterpiece of Nagflar, perhaps its a little bit underrated because its not very wellknown, which is really a pitty.

Own all of their albums, I'd say Vittra and Sheol are their best works.

I definitely miss Jens as their vocalist, but their bassist has done a damn good job stepping up. They were definitely one of my first black metal bands, I remember buying Ex Inferis at a shop in Columbus about 9 years ago when I was hanging out with Sarah Jezebel Deva. I also remember telling her how much better Naglfar's cover of Dawn of Eternity was compared to Cradle's.

Diabolical and Sheol are the only albums worthy of note. Vittra could benefit from a better sound and their post-Sheol work is pretty weak.

I own physical copies of both Pariah and Harvest and of those two the former is my favourite.

I've only heard Pariah, and I think it's an okay album. It's definitely on the mainstream side of melodic black metal. Their new vocalist is much better than his predecessor, in my opinion.

You only heard Pariah but have no problem comparing their vocalists? Jens was much much better, no doubt about that.
