The one above is simply the best album of symphonic black metal of all times. Unbeaten, unbeatable.

I placed just today an order with w-t-c, bought all the Ascension (Germany, black metal) cd's, plus the vinyls of the new Death Karma and the white wax repress of Moonblood's "the winter falls over the land"

Speaking of which, I wonder why there has not been released yet a box set of all the cassette releases of Moonblood, maybe on vinyl. "from hell-the years of heresy" covers only a little of the amount of their songs. Bootlegged so many times I can't even number... times are ripe for an official thing.

Open the Gates kills, but it took the longest time of any MR album for me to get into.

Went to Rasputin, a local music shop, and got some used CDs:

Spoiler: show
Image

Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II (remaster 2006): $9.95. Last time I listened to my old copy of this album I was really unsatisfied with the sound quality. Saw the remaster used, so I picked it up. I'll probably look for the Keeper I remaster as well.

Other than that one, I took gambles on all the rest, in that in either I haven't heard them (or much of them) first, or I listened to once and didn't think of much of it:

Ancient Rites - Rvbicon: $5.95. Got this based on the reputation I've seen this album have around here, and since it was cheap. I actually already had this one downloaded, but I haven't listened to it yet. I figured for the price, may as well get it while it's still there.

Black Math Horseman - Wyllt: $2.95. This one has good reviews here and was mega cheap, and I like doom metal, so what the hey.

Dwarr - Animals: $5.95. This one I don't think is even used. It is still shrinkwrapped, and still has a "new" price tag of $14.99 on it, but the price has a line through it made with a red marker, and there is a tag typical of "used" CDs with the price $5.95 under the "new" tag. So even if it's not used, I got it at a cheap used price!

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Cosmo's Factory: $3.95. And now a non-metal one. My only experience with CCR is a few songs they play on the radio, and I like most of them. I understand this is supposed to be one of their best albums.

Also, this shopping spree has taught me there's good metal and metal related finds hiding in the rock section as opposed to the metal section. Both Black Math Horseman and Dwarr were found in the rock section. I also noticed The Flight of Sleipnir's V in the rock section. It was new for $14.99, so I decided I better hold off until I listen to my download to decide if I want to buy it or not. Also in the rock section was Icecross' self titled. It wasn't the recent reissue from Rockadrome though, it was the one from Dodo, and I already have that one, so I passed it up.

Was a lucky find, had assumed I would never own this one but came across a seller on Amazon with a "new" copy for £16, clearly been resealed but near mint none the less.

You know, I have no knowledge of this Appalling Spawn you guys are speaking of, but the features of 1) a hell of a lot cheaper than usual, 2) resealed, and 3) near mint make me think maybe it's a bootleg. Now some people don't mind that kind of thing, but others do.

Sure, but Hayisforhorses has a tradition of being an expert collector so I don't think he'd be fooled in that department. Unless being a parent partially melted his brain. :p

Appalling Spawn is the pre-Lykathea Aflame band. Still doesn't ring a bell? Go grab the All Spawns compilation and Elvenefris, pronto!

Nah, I like VERY little extreme metal that isn't doom or folk metal. I'm more of a doom/power/heavy/folk metal guy.

On CL Shelton was pretty nasal but it seemed to work with the songs quite well. And he would get a bit harsher at times. On OTG man his vocals are buried under a lot of reverb I guess. CL was thin but clear, where OTB is thicker but kind of muffled. I don't like it as much. I'm guessing Deluge is the same way, but it hasn't shown up yet.

The All Spawns comp is ok, the songs (especially Self Monarch) don't sound quite as good as on the real thing, but yeah it's waaaay cheaper and easier to just get the comp.

His copy of Freedom, Hope and Fury looks legit from what I can tell in that picture. It's got that weird purple hue to it which I'm guessing might be hard to fake (?), it really confused the shit outta me when I got my copy. The only really concerning factor is the whole resealed/advertised as 'new' thing.

Oh, don't grab them then since they're extreme to the bone! :D

Some sellers reseal stuff just to get a better buck, it doesn't necessarily make it a boot. And like hell that I'm paying the first press' real price when I bough the compilation with the demo included for 11€. :P

BUT THEY DROPPED THE INTRO TO SELF MONARCH ON THE COMPILATION. THOSE 30 SECONDS REDEFINE THE ENTIRE ALBUM!!!

Lol thanks, alternatively read as massive nerd :)

Erosion of Humanity wrote:

Yeah pretty sure my brain is melted but...

It looks legit to me (matrix is 007 if anyone else can verify) there is surprisingly little info on it out there, just look at the discogs entry its shocking. Plus i aint aware of this having been booted... Yet.

The seller was a swiss company looks like a music-magpie style reseller, have had sellers do this in the past resealing cds and selling them as new, means they can get a quick sale at a higher price. But sometimes they dont know what they have and/or just have a standard price. Reseals always look the same cheap thin crap that is obviously not factory grade, used to see a lot of it in a certain chain of game store.

This copy had a finger print on the black print on the cd and some minor wear on the spindle hole. So its clearly been handled, otherwise pretty much immaculate.
