Just ordered this from Relapse:

Image

Really hoping the baseball tee fits. I've always wanted one! Psyched to get my hands on the new Christian Mistress. The first two move me in a big way.

Grabbed a few tapes from Caligari:

Throaat -- Bloodfucking Freaks
Caught part of their set in Lexington last Sunday. I was too tired to realize what I was hearing then may well be special. These guys love traditional heavy metal and pervert it through their own manipulations until it comes out as some evil black metal abomination.

Dracula -- Open Graves at Midnight
Killllller heavy metal from the same mind that brought us Tarot and The Wizar'd. If you haven't heard this yet, GET THEE TO BANDCAMP NOW! Second press.

Hessian -- Bachelor of Black Arts
I sampled a few songs on this one because I didn't want to get stuck with some garbage. They want to sound like its 1980 and they carry it off well. Dual male/female vocals lend some depth. They've got a soulful touch like a lot of the old guard who made the jump from 1979 to '80.

Zodiac -- Stone Command
This is probably the biggest risk in the bunch. I sampled one song out of three. This is epic doom metal signed to Heavy Chains records (Tarot, Dracula). The vocals were good and the leads were great but I've already forgotten if there were riffs? We'll see.

Acid Bath - When the Kite String Pops
Acid Bath - Paegan Terrorism Tactics
Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
Candlemass - Nightfall
Candlemass - Ancient Dreams
Candlemass - Tales of Creation
Danzig - Danzig
Witchcraft - The Alchemist [digipak]

They're all 1st press except for the Danzig. I've had the remasters of these albums for a while and I think I like those better. The originals just sound too "quiet" to me now, but it is still cool to have them.

Good fucking call on that Order from Chaos box. So much cool stuff in there. Even the rehearsals are great. It feels like a personal performance from the band in their infancy.

I've always let people scare me off from that Omen record. Even if it is more commercially minded, maybe they've got the talent to pull that off. I should probably sample a song or two.

I had to get rid of the Ancient Dreams remaster because it sounds like shit. Waaaay too much treble. Just turn the originals up a few more notches and turn up the bass levels on your stereo, they'll sound great.

Warlord - And the Cannons of Destruction Have Begun
Runaway Totem - Pleroma
Satarial - The Queen of the Elves' Land

I can't quite remember when I first got into Warlord, but it was somewhere between 2008-2010, and I've been wanting And the Cannons... since then, and I finally have it thanks to a 2015 reissue.

Hanoi Rocks - Two Steps From the Move
The Cult - Ceremony
Deep Purple - Shades of Deep Purple
Deep Purple - The Book of Taliesyn

All on tape. The DP albums were a cool find. I've been meaning to check out the early stuff with Rod Evans singing. Love Captain Beyond and I'm quite fond of that first Warhorse album too. That's Warhorse featuring Deep Purple's original bassist Nick Simper, and not to be confused with the doom band from Massachusetts, or Wino's early version of The Obsessed.

Crystallion is an awesome band. "Burning Bridges" is one of the finest power metal songs ever written. Nice pick up!

I have In Rock and Scandinavian Nights on tape, the latter has a different mix than the CD, which I also have =]
Deep Purple have excellent bass lines, just incessant.

Shok Paris - Steel and Starlight (cass.)

Grabbed this from ebay for less than 4 bucks (including shipping). I've had the Shok Paris debut for years, but I have to admit it doesn't get a lot of spins. Always heard Steel and Starlight was better. I love the cover art and that's about all it takes for me when combined with a bargain.

Keep it real Toine. Are those recent PURCHASES, or gifts for you to review? :)

Strange Broue have awesome aesthetics. It's a shame they're a doom act.

Gifts from the label, cool new Canadian label, the dude was happy with my review for the Shooting Guns/zaum split.
A SHAME? WATCH YOUR MOUTH, JONPOO.

Yeah, Sea Witch are pretty awesome, it's like Ahab but instrumental and with stoner and a black-ish influence. Glad you dig them, ForestC.

Order From Chaos - Frozen in Steel
Misery - Evil Reborn 1992-1995
Depravity - Silence of the Centuries
Excruciate / Epitaph - Hymns of Mortality / Disorientation

Check it out on the Dark Descent Bandcamp page. Besides the good riffs and well-placed synths, the fretless bass adds a lot to the atmosphere. Just wish it was longer than 18 minutes, but it is only an EP. Definitely looking forward to a full-length from these guys.
