The newest. I was at first apprehensive towards the new cover when it came out, by far preferring the old one, but it's grown on me alot.. probably because of all the 60's/70's sci-fi I've been reading lately. I just wish it wasn't for a 60+ minute song so that I could own it on vinyl without getting all anal over the fact that they need to split the song up to make it fit.

Aw man EoH, you'll love Oathbreaker. It's incredible. Also, tell me what you think of Far Beyond. I've been interested in them recently. They have an strange mix of power and black metal going on.

Anyways, here's what I managed to find:

Vaakevandring - Self-Titled EP

Yup, one of the most sought-after pieces of Christian black metal, and I finally have a copy.

Once again, I can't remember the last time I did one of these, so I'm just going to start with the latest stuff. You're going to just have to trust me when I say that I also bought other stuff too (including one of the Dawn reissues!).

Metal Stuff

Young and in the Way - When Life Comes to Death

I never really was sold on this band, but I work with a guy who's a superfan, so I decided to give them an honest try. I have to say, I really liked this record a lot. I listen to hardcore, punk, and crust as often as I listen to metal, so this was right up my goddman alley. Lots of Watain-y sections, and the vocals sometimes strayed toward Carpathian Forest (both good things). Cool as hell.

Extreme Noise Terror - Peel Sessions bootleg 7"

I originally bought this because I was tired as hell from working all day, and thought this was a Nuclear Death Terror record instead and was like "Holy shit, I didn't know NDT has been around that long." In sum, I'm an idiot and can't read. Anyway, I really liked this, even though the quality is spotty, and it isn't exactly just tracks from the session--it's a rip of the entire John Peel broadcast. Still good!

Non-metal Stuff

Joyce Manor - s/t LP

So yeah, this isn't metal at all: it's Epitaph-style pop punk in the lo-fi tradition, which is awesome if you like Off With Their Heads, Iron Chic, etc. I recently bought their latest LP and loved it, and so I went and bought this too. It has a laser etching on the B-side, for whatever that's worth.

Mercy Killings - s/t 7"

Hardcore in the Direct Control style, fucking awesome. Super fast, super aggressive, and on Beach Impediment Records. Sick as hell if you're into the Vaaska, Impalers, Gas Rag type hardcore bands. I love this shit.

Yeah Oathbreaker is awesome, I just wish the quality of the two Hoth albums were switched  . Far Beyond is cool but not an everyday band for me, it's a bit slower paced than I normally go for. How and where in the hell did you find that Vaakevandring EP? And how much did it run you if you don't mind me asking?

I actually haven't really given a listen to Infinite Darkness, but by the sound of it, it seems you think that it's compositionally superior. Is that the case?

I managed to snag the EP off eBay. Some guy in Norway was selling off his whole collection. He had a lot of pretty good stuff, I tried to get the Grave Declaration EP but was sniped, but I did manage to also get a copy of Drottnar's Anamorphosis EP. The Vaakevandring EP cost me $40, which is SUPER CHEAP for that album, but I think the reason that that happened is because he also had copies of Antestor's The Defeat of Satan compilation, which went for over $100 (a lot of people wanted that...), and even more valuable, he also had Frosthardr's Necrodisaster demo, which went for a lot as well. That seemed to get the main focus and I don't think that most people even realized that he had Vaakevandring's album. Sadly, shipping from Norway to the U.S. was expensive. Overall I got both EPs for $91 (including shipping charges), but I think it will be worth it.

EDIT: The guy also had Vaakevandring's demo. That went for $25.

:fuck: :fuck: :fuck: there is no way for me to actually describe how pissed off I am that I missed that sale and I can honestly say it will bother me until I can find all those albums. I would have easily spent $5-600 to get that stuff (I have the cash in my sock drawer...).

As far as Hoth is concerned Oathbreaker is waaay better than the debut, I just wish it was the other way around because the first one is based solely off of Star Wars.

I don't understand. Oathbreaker is a concept album about the life of Anakin/Darth Vader.

Maybe I just prefer songs about Jabba the Hut, giant ass star destroyers, and the Rancor ok. :-P

MA:

Mourn in Silence - Until the Stars Won't Fall

Never have really listened to gothic metal outside of Illuminandi in the past, and these guys have a nice symphonic, very nighttime-sounding style. I bet I'll like this album.

Non-MA:

Substructure - Monolith

I discovered this band ages ago but never bothered to buy their EP until now. It's really good...really good. Super atmospheric djent that has 'core vocals that actually work and sound good.

I did another mystery title grab bag from Metallic Media's eBay store and it came in today:

Image

1.Fecund Betrayal - Depths That Buried the Sea
2.Athlos - In the Shroud of Legendry - Hellenic Myths of Gods and Heroes
3.Fatal Mutiny - Existence in Extinction
4.Demon Prayers - Evoke the Pain
5.Catapult The Smoke - Born in Fire

All and all I am pretty pleased with my $9.99 investment/gamble.

Recently did a big trade deal, offloading a load of dusty (and generally worthless) black metal for the below. Yes, the Sororicide is a boot, but the Paradise Lost is fully autographed.

Yeah I already have the censored 94 presses of the first two Carcass, about time I got the gore versions. Cerekloth is great too - still working my way through them :)

Decided I wanted to own a bunch of doom favorites on vinyl too.

Chains - Dancing with My Demons (7")
Chains - Violet Wizard (CD) Like a worse Paul Chain or John Gallo (Blizaro, John Gallow, etc.) but it has a certain appeal.
Deep - Celebrity Death (CD) Good of the band to finally release this on CD.
In-Graved - In-Graved (LP) A very underrated/overlooked album. Victor Griffin is the man. Never Surrender!
Millennium - Millennium (CD) Cool NWOBHM, first time on CD I believe.
Pale Divine - Thunder Perfect Mind (2LP)
Paul Chain - Alkahest (2LP)
Paul Chain - King of the Dream (LP)
Paul Chain Violet Theatre - In the Darkness (LP)
Spiritus Mortis - Fallen (LP)

It's actually pretty fucking solid, 2 exemplary Ringworm originals and a cool Discharge cover.

Finally snagged up Accept's newest. Forwent the deluxe edition for the standard, since all it has was a live show on the 2nd disc. Since I'm gonna be seeing Accept live in about a month I decided to save some scratch.

Nice to see some love for Krovoyzliyanie. Very good ol' russian thrash metal there. Wish I could find one of those around here, but I guess it'll be in another life.

Well, just managed to make another attempt at my bank account's health... I was listening to Vintersorg's Naturbal, which is very cool by the way, and suddenly I was at Napalm Records' webshop. It seems that the Vintersorg titles are being given away (seriously, they're as low as 2.99€!) so I just grabbed... four of them. I also took the opportunity to finally buy myself those first Ahab albums (not a fan of The Giant) and Arcane Rain Fell as well.

Now to sob alone in the dark... :grumble:

Nope, unfortunately. I had it with several albums that came in recently stacked up next to my laptop and was planning on ripping them today while I actually had some free time. I figure I will be ordering another copy when I get paid Friday because there was no saving the disc. It even had teeth holes in it. In the meantime I guess there is always YouTube.

Man, that sucks. First thing I do immediately when I get a CD is rip it to my computer. For rare stuff I then burn it onto several backup discs and put it on flash drives. You can never be too safe.
