Until yesterday, I believed the 1st press from Malicious Records to have been red (this one), clear and black vinyl, and only the black vinyl was a gatefold release. I got new info, however, that pointed out that the black vinyl is the 1st press, and red and clear are represses, released a year later. So 2nd press, and somewhere I also read that it was limited to 150 copies; this is unconfirmed, though.

You win. The first three alone give you the win, but RoF and three Secret Sphere albums? :D

I was astounded to find that many Secret Sphere albums in the same store. To be honest though, Portrait of a Dying Heart is vastly superior to A Time To Come (haven't had a chance to listen to Heart & Anger yet). Michele Luppi is just leagues better than Messina, and the songwriting is much more compact, with less filler.

The real win from that trip was that I actually recognized the name Valley's Eve. I'm not a huge Mystic Prophecy fan (though I do enjoy them), and I definitely would have skipped over that record if my brain wasn't clicking at the moment.

Did you get the re-recorded version of A Time Never Come with Luppi or the original? Also, how do you like the Crystallion album? That might be my all-time favorite power metal album. It's absolute perfection.

I've never heard of Valley's Eve.

Next time you're here (possibly for a good show and not Delain and Hammerfall hahahaha :) ), we should go out for beers. I'm moving to Montréal proper this summer.

Got those today at the record shop. All 2 for 20 CDs.
Portishead - Dummy
Portishead - Third
Black Sabbath - Sabotage
Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Antemasque - s/t

The Sabbaths are remastered digipacks, they were released last year.

Yeah I thought it may have been the red press, (I have the black gate-fold version) but I was more interested in the photo cards that came with it, as one of them looks like Samoth from the Zyklon-B Blood Must be Shed ep? If it is, I was curious as to why it came with that version.

Those are flyers that came with the record, they promote various Malicious Records releases. One has Samoth, and promotes Blood Must Be Shed, so your eyesight is perfect! One has Mortiis, promoting Vond, Mortiis and a couple other albums, and the last one is a Dødheimsgard flyer.

I've never heard of Valley's Eve.

I got the original version of that SS album.

Crystallion album was enjoyable. It definitely didn't strike me as just another generic power metal album after one listen, but I'm going to need to hear it a lot to really digest what is going on.

For sure! If it makes you feel any better, I skipped Delain at 2 of the 3 shows. There was no topping HammerFall's performances, so it didn't even make sense to stick around and watch Delain fail :P

That Crystallion album took a few listens to really click. I'm still jealous of your haul!

Stopped by the record store to see if there was anything interesting left over from RSD and there wasn't--nothing affordable at least. They did have a copy of the recent picture disc reissue of Severed Survival, but the jacket had noticeable damage. Ended up just buying a few used CDs:

Satan - Atom by Atom
Atheist - Jupiter
Skeletal Spectre - Tomb Coven

Black Sabbath - Technical Ecstasy (1987 CD version to replace the god-awful-sounding 1996 remaster I have)
Iron Maiden - No Prayer for the Dying
Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark
Iron Maiden - Brave New World
Iron Maiden - Dance of Death
Iron Maiden - The Final Frontier
Ozzy Osbourne - Blizzard of Ozz (30th anniversary edition)
Various - Euphonious Records: A Collection of Darkness (discovered there's a Gigandhi song on there that's not on any of their albums)

That 1996 remaster of Technical Ecstasy has a DR of 11, hardly brickwalled. I sure hope those two Maiden ones are the originals as the 1998 remasters are far more egregiously smashed than any Black Sabbath CD.

It doesn't need to be brickwalled to sound awful.

Well I haven't heard that one, but the 1996 remasters of the first 6 sound fine to me.. certainly better than the old ratshit versions that were released by Castle in Australia way back when. Those literally sounded like third-generation cassettes that had been copied on a budget-range tape deck using high speed dubbing. Maybe one day I'll track down some old Vertigo or WB pressings of those albums to match the majority of my post-Ozzy Sabbath CDs.

CDs this weekend:

Grand Magus - Sword Songs, Cool band with some heavy riffy doomy stuff. Very good singer too. Dig 'em.
Metallica - Ride the Lightning, Cheap remastered version, figured I'd pick it up since it is my favorite thrash album. Only have an old CD version of this.
The Obsessed - Sacred, New The Obsessed! Wow, long time coming for this album I reckon.
