(or any epic or melancholic classical or celtic)

I'll post some of my favourite songs, but I'd like to find some great new artists.

Gris- La Dryade (Depressive black metal, but this is the best instrumental ever)

Triarii- Europa
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxswjVF5T_s

Ronan Hardiman- Cry of the Celts

shit, that's awesome.

I was hoping for more just neoclassical, this sounds like it's black metal mixed with neoclassical, but still amazing

What does neoclassical even mean? Over the years of metal discussion with others, I have inferred it just means playing the guitar fucking fast.

Basically just mediocre guitar versions of classical piano.

For some kind of that Triarii styled bombastic, martial neoclassical sound def. check the fantastic stuff of L'EFFET C'EST MOI
http://www.myspace.com/leffetcestmoi

also Nihil Novi Sub Sole are worth checking out (though they include also some industrial elements)

Well, I've always seen the Melancholic classical music I listen to tagged as "neoclassical" on last.fm

So my description would be more melancholic or epic classical.

Well, since we're just throwing bands left and right, here are some of my favourites:

Scythelence:
http://www.myspace.com/scythelence
When you've heard Scythelence, you'll never be able to enjoy any other neoclassical artist again, because Scythelence puts them all to shame with the extremely organic and beautiful compositions.

Die Verbannten Kinder Evas:
http://www.myspace.com/dieverbanntenkinderevas
A bit on the repetetive side, but it has its moments.

Dead Can Dance:
http://www.myspace.com/deadcandance
The great creators of it all, any neoclassical fan should know them.

Also seconding Elend.

Umm, I can't tell if you're serious with Scythelence, all his songs were just silence.

Since when is neoclassical playing guitar real fast?

And I definitely recommend Dead Can Dance (early stuff more, like Within the Realm of a Dying Sun) and Elend. Winds Devouring Men is a masterpiece.

You talkin' to me?

Kat actually transcribes classical songs into metal music.

Cacophony's Speed Metal Symphony is one hell of a shred/metal album. Jason Becker's solo stuff is also quite good.

Isnt shred same as Neoclassical? Whatever neoclassical I ve heard (Malmsteen, Becker, Cacophony) usually gets lumped with shred.

Yeah, they're synonymous in the context of metal genres.
