Last year I was on holiday in Spain and came across a digipak release from a band called NUMEN. Found out when I looked at the lyrics that they sing in Basque (and play some fantastic music too). I'm interested to know if there are any other bands that sign in this language, or some languages that aren't spoken by the masses. For instance, are there any bands that write their lyrics entirely in Latin?

Nazgul from Italy sing entirely in Latin. Not really my thing, but if you enjoy symphonic black metal check out their album De Expugnatione Elfmuth.

I think all the bands on this sing in Basque: http://metal-archives.com/release.php?id=166363

Possibly my favorite release ever.

I was going to mention that. I've only heard one track from the Adhur side, but it was excellent.

It makes sense for a death metal band to have Latin lyrics. You know, dead language and all.

My brother listens to a folk band that sing in Gaelic , I'll ask him who they are. It isn't Metal by any means, but their singer has a great voice and they're quite an original sounding group.

A good portion of Korean bands sing in Korean, and if they do sing in English, they at least have a few songs in Korean.

Eluveitie's latest album was all in Old Gaulish, which I thought was pretty awesome as it was taken from old texts and left untranslated. It's not metal, but an awesome album.

Menhir's "Hildebrandslied" contains two songs (Hildebrandslied Teil I and II) that are in Old High German.

Heidevolk sing in Dutch...

But anyway, I must get a hold of that Triarchy of Vasconia CD. That Catala label interests me as I have just moved to Catalunya.

Try Chaotic Hope. On their only album, they were promoting the use of Astur-Leonese, an endangered language from northwestern Spain. They also called for the Spanish government to allow the teaching of this regional dialect. In addition to all this. their music is pretty decent, symphonic melodic black metal with an odd heavy dose of fiddle.

Su Ta Gar are a classic Basque band who sing in their language, they are kind of classic/speed metal, good stuff.
But the Basque country is mainly famous for punk, the best bands in Spain came from there: Eskorbuto, VĂ³mito, Cicatriz, La Polla, etc etc etc, but the only one I know sings in Basque are Kortatu and Negu Gorriak.

This is gold right here! and the first thing that came to mind upon reading the thread's title.

Adhur is an excellent band. I have a promo which Eate gave me on a trade some years ago, it is post-2000 material. Hopefully he releases sometime soon, very promising stuff!

I think the band Briargh might have also written some stuff in Basque on the "En el Bosque de Erudinus" 2006 demos compilation, which are another masterpiece. Highly recommended.

Less sloppy and much better production. Here is a track I uploaded for you for a future album possibly entitled "Neguko Errege". The music is going about the same direction but a bit more elaborated and aggressive. I don't particularly like the mix but its just a promo track, it has no lead vocals either. It sounds like its not even mastered either, it is still very enjoyable. That last riff is magnificent!

Eate and some other guy from Ilbeltz are also behind Indar Productions which are responsible for Ihsahn, zyklon and moonsorrow's gauntlets, wristbands and guitar straps as well as other bands/merch. Not my favorite dish but pretty cool stuff anyway.

Thank you! Wow, that song is incredible! I can't wait until that album gets released. Adhur was the band that made me realize that I like folk/black metal more than anything else.
