Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance (2006) (not actually their best, but a lot better than anything they released after "Discouraged Ones" in 1998 imo)

Rotting Christ - Theogonia (2007)

Hate (Pol) - Awakening of the Liar (2003)

Parricide (Pol) - Patogen (2005)

Septic Flesh - Communion (2008)

The Kovenant - S.E.T.I. (2003)

Well, yes, but it wouldn't take a genius to realize I was talking about the millenium that just ended..

Deicide's "The Stench of Redemption"... I think this album can seriously match up to the self-titled or Legion album. Heavy, aggressive, in your face, and just fucking badass. It's sad that I don't hear about this album anymore.

I agree with "Theogonia" by Rotting Christ being a great record in the new millenium, albeit still don't nearly as great as their first three.

Grave Digger's "Rheingold" and "Ballad for a Hangman" are both great albums, the former even rivals some of their greatest 90s work.

Artillery's new one is also a very fine record. Was never much into them, but "When Death Comes" really enlightened my flame of interest.

Rage's "Soundchaser" is also among the band's best efforts, released in 2003.

Behemoth releasing "Thelema.6" and the following albums were also way better than their pre-"Pandemonic Incantations" output.

Motörhead's latest 3 albums were all gold as well. Especially "Infernö" was amazing.

I guess there a still quite a few older bands with fire left in them....
