Is the strange whistling noise in the very beginning of False Dawn the same sample used early on in Astrofaes' A Song of the Night Birds? It sounds very similar to me only the sample in the Astrofaes track is behind the piano/keyboard while in Drudkh track it is right up front. I don't particularly find this surprising considering the scene's incestuousness and the relation between the two bands.

An interesting question would be: is this sample used elsewhere in any songs from the Kharkiv collective?

One of the members of Drudkh is the mastermind behind Astrofaes.

I've come across the bird noises at the beginning of Moonsorrow's Jotunheim in several other songs, although I can't remember which anymore. I wonder who used them first.

Its not stealing to use same sample that someone else has used, unless ofc the band like recorded it themselves. For example sample cd:s arent generally used that much in metal, but id guess many bands have same movie samples etc. and i think the number of bands that have sampled church bells from metallica is atrocious. I only know Emperor, but im sure there is more. Also you could quite much expect that different projects from same person use at least some same samples.

Also many popular synths and keyboards have "sound effects" patches, and owls/eagles/chickens are always on there somewhere (along with gunshots, helicopters and audience applause). If a particular model of keyboard is used often you will notice the sounds being reused too. In this particular case, I don't think it was originally recorded by Astrofaes.

What struck me though, is that the timing on both tracks is exactly the same. I tossed the two into a sound editing program and the bird chirps lined up exactly.

The use of a sound effects library is always possible though the distance between the bird sounds seems too rigid and measured for it to be a natural sound which, as far as I would know, would be the best choice were one to use a sound effects cd. The use of the same keyboard effects is also possible but somehow, the exactness of the timing seems too precise to be a keyboard effect.

I think the same sample was used by both bands.

It makes perfect sense that birds sound like birds.

I don't know. Thought it was interesting since so many people put Drudkh on such a high and mighty pillar.

Noktorn is correct. A quick check shows that Astrofaes are all current / former Drudkh members. Hell, Drudkh's vocalist has the exact same slot, so you'd expecting some similarities taken from one band to blend in with the other, even if it is the same sample.

I have a keyboard that can easily replicate Summoning's Minas Morgul.

I guess I better get on to stealing some Summoning stuff

Yes and no. Drudkh is Roman Saenko's band and I presume he still writes all the material. Astrofaes is Thurios' band and has always been.

So in your opinion this conversation is completely impossible between members of the same band:

Roman: Yo dawg this track would be sick with some tight-ass bird noises, we'd be all nature and shit

Thurios: Nigga I wrote a track a while back with some mothafuckin' tweet tweet motherfucker you should sample that shit

Roman: That's tight ya'll we use that shit in both bands

Xzibit: Yo dawg we heard you like nature so we put a bird in yo song so you can tweet while you tweet and some ns ideology in yo car so you can master race while you master the race

I don't know. Thought it was interesting since so many people put Drudkh on such a high and mighty pillar.

So let me get this straight - assuming Drudkh actually "stole" a bird sound from a hypothetical completely unrelated band, this would somehow refute these people's opinions?

Not at all. In fact, I still think that False Dawn is their best song. I was just bringing to attention some minor tidbit that people who are fond of the band might find interesting. I wouldn't say it makes the band any better or worse, just that you would think that there could have been another conversation more like this:

Roman: Yo dawg this track would be sick with some tight-ass bird noises, we'd be all nature and shit

Thurios: Nigga I wrote a track a while back with some mothafuckin' tweet tweet motherfucker you should sample that shit

Roman: Dawg, we aint Dr. Dre or Lil' Wayne or some shit. Lets get some new tweet tweets.

Xzibit: Yo dawg we heard you like nature so we put a bird in yo song so you can tweet while you tweet and some ns ideology in yo car so you can master race while you master the race
