Mastodon.

They used to get lumped in as metalcore/crap. Now everyone has a monster boner for them.
I don't get it.
I think the vocals here are terri-bad.

I don't have anything against proggy-ness or experimenting or growing as a band. I jsut don't get the uber-fappage this bandhas gotten recently.

Although I don't like Mastodon either, I can see why they would appeal to people. They're good musicians and write fairly catchy music.

i agree with the former. but the clean vocal part here is just...not flattering.

The attraction is that they combine doom, hardcore, progressive metal and even southern rock in a unique and interesting way. Sure, I have complaints (the drummer is way too showy, although he did a good job of showing restraint on the newest album) and the harsh vocals were appropriate with their early material but were beginning to be out of place (again, something that was pretty much corrected on the latest album).

They're not my favorite band by any means but they're definitely a good listen. I think most of the hate stems from their popularity, although many have voiced the same complaints I have. It seems that their latest album has even won over many detractors, as evidenced by reactions to the new material by people on this board.

I used to not like them that much but I do appreciate the direction that they're going in.

I've always just found them boring really. Uninteresting melodies or something and not a fan of the vocals.

Nobody really likes them around here.
