The overall fan favorite from Cannibal Corpse? Tell me which version you have. There is a special Japanese version with a live track. I don't know which cover art is has. Also, what is your opinion of the No Remorse cover that is on the digipack. What do you think seperates Gore Obsessed from the other albums?

There's nothing special about Gore Obsessed, aside from the fact it's a Corpsegrinder album that isn't complete shit.

What is it about his vocals that you think are good on the album?

It doesn't even really have anything to do with Corpsegrinder, to be honest. I simply don't think post-Barnes CC have their songwriting chops up to par. I've always found something missing with all Corpsegrinder albums. For the record, it's not like I was particularly fond of Barnes' vocals or anything either. I just think the songwriting was dull on most things in the Corpsegrinder era.

I really enjoyed Gore Obsessed and I can't put my finger on it. But the cover of "No Remorse" was fantastic and the album is just a solid slab of DM, nothing astounding save "Pit of Zombies" that song rules hard.

I wish more people would look at it that way. With the intensity of the scorn they hold for George, you'd think the guy actually had a hand in writing anything.

Pit of Zombies may be their best song from the last ten years. Sounds great live. Maybe even better.

Grotesque is an amazing song.

I really like Gore Obsessed because of the bassy sound. Everything is really messy too.

Top notch album, to me this is when they started experimenting with the technical death metal sound. And songs like Pit of Zombies will always be favorites.

yeah, when Pat O'Brien came aboard they got a lot more technical because he's that kind of player.

I dig CC's brand of technicality a lot too because of one reason: they incorporate it into the songwriting. It's not mind blowing playing, but it's a good example of how to experiment and be technical without having take the forefront of the song structures...a lot of modern DM can learn from that.

I think that ever since The Bleeding the band decided to get a bit more technical on each CC release. I think Gore Obsessed balances out the normal death metal sound and technical sound out of all CC releases, which makes it more enjoyable to a lot of fans or people who despise CC. Its not too simple, but its not mindless wankery either.

Anything with George I find is mediocre at it's best.
Cannibal Corpse died after The Bleeding and what an album for Barnes to go out on!

Theres two covers, theres the regular one with the guy on the ground being ripped apart and the other(german) that has a zombie holding an ax up.

I know I am in a huge minority when I say this...but Gore Obsessed is actually my fave CC album! There's not a single song on there that I don't like, and aside from maybe "Kill", I cant say that about any other CC album. There are some true CC classics on there, such as "Dormant Bodies Bursting", "Pit Of Zombies", and my personal fave, "Hatchet To The Head"! The level of consistency on this album is awesome, and that's why it's my favourite. :metal:

The version I have, is a limited edition. The cd is in a black slipcase, with just a big Cannibal Corpse logo in red. The cover of the cd itself, is the one with the guy being ripped apart by zombies. Ive often associated the song "Pit Of Zombies" with that cover, as well as the album itself! As for the cover of "No Remorse"... I prefer the original, but the cover is pretty good. Not bad at all!

Did only the first pressing come with "No Remorse"?

My version has the the Metallica cover and the black slipcase. I find it a relatively solid album as far as Corpsegrinder-era CC goes. Favorites include Pit of Zombies, Dormant Bodies Bursting and Hung and Bled...I think that tune is killer.

The black slipcase is the only version. They did that to avoid a censored version.

Thought so. There's no way to tell which version has No Remorse on it until you buy it right?

I have seen the regular cd, (without the slipcase) with the uncensored cover, without "No Remorse" on it. I think the version with the slipcase and the Metallica cover is a limited edition.

When I bought my copy of Gore Obsessed back in 2002, there was a little sticker telling of the limited edition No Remorse cover on the front. I have have seen the black slipcase with and without said sticker on it. Still I don't think that's a good way to judge whether or not it is the limited edition or not.

Have yet to see a copy in stores without the slipcase.

Edit: Just looked through the booklet and there's absolutely nothing in there that mentions No Remorse, so I'm assuming only way to find out is to pop the CD in and count the number of tracks. If it reads 12, you have No Remorse at the end.

I have seen the album in HMV, uncensored, without the slipcase lol

There's no mention of No Remorse in the booklet, but it is listed on the tracklisting on the back of the slipcase ;)

The version that I have with No Remorse on it is not a digipack it's just a regular slip case cd. Gore Obsessed in my oppinon is in the third best Corpsegrinder album behind Vile and Bloodthirst. The artwork is nothing short of superb. The album pummels its way from start to finish in a very technical way.

What about Vile or Bloodthirst? Vile had a lot of songs that Barnes had no contribution to like Disfigured for instance. The Fisher and Barnes era are two completly different animals it's true. However, Vile is the perfect album in between. Because it still has that hint of old Cannibal but they're starting to evolve into what they are now.

Those albums both suck and are vastly over-rated, ESPECIALLY Bloodthirst

Anyway on the topic Gore Obsessed is one damn worthless album. I got it with Vile when I was about 14...I digged Gore Obsessed a bit longer than Vile but both got REALLY old in just couple weeks. This album really has no fully good songs on it at all, some tracks like Savage Butchery, Dormant Bodies Bursting and Grotesque have one or more good sections but that's it...and most of the time that's anyway the best thing Cannibal Corpse can do.

Seriously everyone just stick to Eaten Back To Life and Tomb Of The Mutilated.

Do you just have some kind of compulsion to badmouth post-Barnes CC wherever and whenever you can?

No that's not true. The last time I got crazy over Cannibal Corpse was 2 weeks ago.

Nah man Butchered At Birth really isn't so good afterall...it lacks the RIFFS :(
Chris Barnes sounds really menacing on it though but that's about it.

Hate to say it, but I actually find Vile to be one of, if not the worst CC album. It has roughly 3 and a half songs I find worthy of listening to (Devoured by Vermin, Eaten From Inside, Orgasm Through Torture). Bloodthirst, on the other hand, I really don't remember much from, which doesn't really reflect all that good on it.

Like I've said, something with the Corpsegrinder-era's songwriting simply doesn't click with me.

Pornogrind_is_genius, If you do not like Cannibal Corpse after Tomb of the mutilated fine, but what is the point of coming into a thread to annoy people who do?

Misainzig, Vile has some other really appealing songs like Disfigured, Perverse suffering and Mummified in barbed wire. I mean if you don't enjoy those songs than so be it. I think Bloodthirst is a really great album and it's probably their heaviest. Unleashing the blood thirsty is one of my favorite Cannibal Corpse songs.

Although I have the stance I do on the Corpsegrinder era, there are still always a few good songs on every album. I do enjoy some Corpsegrinder material. They simply don't deliver what I look for in death metal I guess. I'll give Bloodthirst another shot eventually, however.

Pornogrind_is_genius, this is an internet message board if you really feel the need to post on something you dislike everytime you see it, than more power to you. Everyone is entitled to their 2 cents, but I just think that it's a little unnecessary to go into a thread about something you dislike and say it sucks.

Misainzig, Well I can understand why a lot of people dislike the different eras. I mean anything Corpsegrinder is a lot different because the guitars are alot more detuned and Pat Obrien brought a lot of technicality to their playing that some do not like. As far as the song writing goes, Chris just wrote lyrics and that is it. I really do not care about the lyrics in death metal. But, just to give Chris his due yes his lyrics are more gruesome. However, that does not make or break bands for me.

I think George's vocals sound spot on for his sound on this album. His highs are far less weak than their later releases.

I love Gore Obsessed, and all their albums for that matter. Cannibal can't release a bad album, in my opinion. GO is the first George era album I went NUTS for, and I still love it. My version doesn't have the Metallica cover, but I have it on Worm Infested, and love it.

It's alright. I like Worm Infested better than any of the Corpsegrinder LPs but this one has one of two songs that are decent. Nothing technical as usual which sucks.

Yeah, but Pat came aboard 5-6 years earlier, didn't he? I think he first played on Gallery of Suicide.

I find most Corpsegrinder era Cannibal Corpse to be boring, and alot of the songs are either similar to their other songs, or just boring. I find Gore Obsessed, Gallery of Suicide, and a few songs from Vile and Bloodthirst to be the only Fisher-era stuff that I enjoy.

I think George Fisher is a great vocalist, but alot of the music is just boring to me.

Since when the hell is Gore Obsessed the fan favorite Cannibal Corpse album? I hardly even listen to them, but they have better material than that.
