What do you guys think of this? I really enjoy listening to guitar solos and shredding, and I would like to know what albums or guitarists you guys think are worthy to check out. So far, the only stuff that I have is Karl Sander's work, and Michael Angelo's stuff.

http://www.myspace.com/cacophonypwns Marty friedman of megadeth fame and Jason Becker the encredible tragic, yet super inspiring guitarist did this work back in the 80's. A few songs have vocals but there are beautifully crafted and heavily classical influenced instrumental gems in this. Also, after their one album together, each made there respective solo works.

Have fun.

P.s. While on the subject here is an interesting youtube video; an interview with Jason becker with help of a computer voice program to help him speak. Very cool that he can still have such drive for life.

I love Jason Becker's solos stuff, Perspective is one of the most inspiring albums I've ever heard. Marty's early solo stuff was pretty good, the more new age-y Asian stuff, but he sucks now.

Keep 'em coming guys.

Also, Trey Azagthoth's Love of Lava album is pretty good.

Ron Jarzombek - Solitarily Speaking of Theoretical Confinement. Technical as hell and damn good.

Jerry Cantrell's solo stuff is great heavy metal. Boggy Depot and Degradation Trip Vol.1 & 2 are awesome and have amazing guitaring.

Marty Friedman has some good albums that are absolute clinics. I also like some of John Christ's stuff. Ace Frehley is a guitar god. I wish he had more solo outputs. KISS ceased to become awesome once he was fired.

Yep.

Love Paul Gilbert's solo records, he's one of the few shredders I still actually care about.

You probably know Jeff Loomis from Nevermore already, but if not, then check out his album "Zero Order Phase". He shows off some really good technical ability and songwriting.

I'm pretty sure Fredrik Thordendal, of Meshuggah, has his own project.
But otherwise Jeff Loomis has been mentioned, and i can't think of anymore.

Jeff Loomis is one of the best guitarists out there, between technical capability, songwriting, and versatility of playing lead and rhythm.

Kris Norris has put out a ton of solo albums under different names, but his most recent "Kris Norris Projekt" album is likely the best, very melodic.

James Murphy released some quality solo albums. I'm surprised he hasn't been mentioned yet.

Say what you want about Chris Amott in Arch Enemy, but he does some justice in his power metal side project, Armageddon. I've waited years for another album, but he keeps pushing it back.

John Petrucci's Suspended Animation is alright.

Glad you liked it, man! I heartily recommend Maximum Security to anyone interested in guitar-based instrumental music; it's a staple of the genre in my opinion. I still consider Premonition and Evolution to be Tony's best work, however.

I don't think he's considered to be a metal guitarist by most people on here, but John 5's solo material is pretty good. "Songs for Sanity" in particular is a great album.

I'm not sure if they have to be metal or not... but Al Di Meola is a worthy answer I think.....

Into my Amazon.com wishlist it goes. I can't take Yngwie Malmsteen, so I don't know a lot about this kind of stuff.
